- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I've spent a lot of time developing my skill as a trainer and learning as much as I can. Most recently, I've worked with Z-Health Performance Solutions, which is a brain-based training program, focused on assessing and eliminating neurological threats into training to enhance athletic performance, reduce pain thresholds, and improve overall balance and coordination. I also love to read books and articles to constantly learn more about health and fitness. It is constantly evolving and sometimes I find the best way for me to learn is through trial and error myself. I love to go out and test theories or workouts and see first hand what I think works and what doesn't. Anyone who thinks they know everything there is to know about fitness is hindering their own success. We can constantly learn from others.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
My desire to become a personal trainer was actually sparked during my own journey towards being healthier. I was a competitive gymnast for 15 years and being "in shape" just came naturally to me for a long time. Once I stopped competing and focused on college, I unfortunately let that athlete inside go into hibernation. Without even realizing it, I woke up one morning and realized I hated the person I saw in the mirror. My reflection didn't reflect that athletic and competitive nature that flowed through me. So I decided to do something about it. I started going to the gym and was initially very intimidated. I felt lost, clueless, and as a woman, very out of place in the free weight section. That's when I started reading articles, watching videos, and getting my hands on any information that could guide me in the right direction. Before I knew it, I had ignited that fire inside of myself again and realized I was happiest when I was pushing myself to the limits in the gym. I began lifting heavier and smarter and eventually got myself into the best shape of my life. That's when I decided that I wanted to help others reach the success I had accomplished and I became a certified personal trainer. Now I'm not only a trainer that helps others reach their potential, but I continue to push myself and set new goals by getting involved in fitness competitions.
