Ralph is not an ordinary "handyman" He has a wealth of
experience, and is confident, even fierce in his approach to whatever challenge I presented. Ralph has great energy, doesn't back away from things or waste time or your money. I found Ralph trustworthy, friendly, and honest about how to save me money, solve problems, and show up when expected. I highly recommend him.– Mike
Question and answer
Q. Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.
A. I've done a lot of painting and landscaping jobs. Although, there has been a number of remodeling and new carpentry jobs as well.
Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A. Take some steps that most people aren't willing to take. First, price quotes based on emails, messages, etc., without seeing the job in person first, are generally inaccurate. They can be incomplete, do not take into account unforeseen circumstances, or the job may even be less than most vendors are quoting based on emails etc. Second, by meeting your Handyman in person; you will have a better handle on reliability, personality, and experience. Thirdly, your handyman will be able to accurately estimate materials needed, time involved and anticipate problems that may arise thereby giving you an accurate estimate. Lastly, prices by the job (including materials) will often save you up to 15-20% off what the total cost may have been on hourly plus materials. (At least my quotes do.)
Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?
A. Reliable, shows up to do the job and will finish. Very meticulous and willing to go extra mile.
Q. What do you like most about your job?
A. The variety of work that I perform and seeing the results when my jobs are completed.
Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?
A. Started doing some kind of work like this when I was a child working with my father. Soldered my first plumbing pipes when I was 7 years old.
Q. Describe your most recent project, what it involved, how much it cost, and how long it took.
A. My most recent project started as a simple bathroom ceiling leak drywall repair. After removing the damaged area drywall, we found mold, rotted wood and insulation. Removed all of the ceiling in the bathroom, rusted nails and screws. Then removed all of the infected insulation back to the next bearing wall, well over 2 feet past the infected areas. Checked all walls for infection and it was clear.
The wood was treated for mold, and some wood replaced if rotted. Added new insulation, new moisture resistant drywall and taped/textured the ceiling. The total job cost was $700 including materials. It has taken me four days to do the job right.
Q. Write your own question and answer it.
A. The "oddest" job I've done? A customer called me to put up a pool from a local big box retailer. Quite simple really, but I had never been asked to do this kind of "small job" before. I actually enjoyed doing the work for my customer including setting up the chemicals, filters, etc. for her. She was swimming within $45 and 6 hours.
