Gary is very patient in guiding people new to social media. Instead of just theory, he has his students do hands on actions. Social media has many aspects and having an experienced guide helps save time and money.

Question and answer

Q. Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.

A. My typical client is a small to medium size business. I normally work with the owner or manager. Home based businesses are also a big part of my client base.

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. There are hundreds of people that can create a web site or even do it yourself. But not nearly as many can create a site that will get found in the search engines.
Also, a good social media coach can help a business understand how to use social media effectively and efficiently.

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. Don't use a template driven web site service like the domain registrars offer. They load the site with a ton of extraneous code and they will not rank well in the search engines.

Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?

A. Do you have sites ranking high in the search engines?
What happens when I need to make a change? What will that cost or is it included?
If I decide to go elsewhere, can I move my website?

Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?

A. What is the ultimate goal for their online marketing presence? Do they want search engine ranking? What is the call to action they will have in their site?

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. There are many web designers, search engine optimization specialists and social media experts, but there are very few that understand all three. We integrate all 3 elements, combined with effective copy and article marketing to produce results.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. Working with clients and watching their business grow as a result of our efforts. Small business is the backbone of our economy and I love helping my clients stand out above the competition

Q. What do you wish customers knew about you or your profession?

A. While it's easy to buy a program that will build a web site, or go to a site that advertises "have your website online tonight", people don't realize that doesn't mean the search engines will find it and if they do, rank it anywhere it can be found. It takes a specific formula to create a site that meets the latest search engine criteria.

Also, don't be fooled by the SEO services that are offered with your template web site. That's not going to help. If search engine placement is important, have a professional build your site.

Q. What are the latest developments in your field? Are there any exciting things coming in the next few years or decade that will change your line of business?

A. Social media is an important component of online marketing and can be a contributing factor to search engine optimization (SEO). But social media is a constantly changing playing field.

With the recent introduction of Google Plus to the social media game, a entirely new prospective is developing. Google strives to be the ultimate source for search but without a social media presence, they are missing the real time search they desire. In addition, they are also missing the valuable demographic data that Facebook has built through their likes and interests. Look for Google to modify it's search engine optimization algorithms to factor in Google plus in the near future.
