I am a canine behavior specialist who works with dogs, from puppyhood through seniors. Respect and trust through positive reinforcement has proven to be effective and least intrusive when training and working through behavior changes.
I have a private practice, teach group classes, and provide in-home training, where many behaviors seem to occur. I serve the Los Angeles area.

I have known Barbara Johnson for 7 years. I have witnessed Barbara's behavioral skills blossum and flourish through her dedication and commitment to helping strengthen the human-animal companion bond through the education of dog owners on how their loved one communicates directly through their behavior. Barbara strongly believes in what she teaches by always continuing to educate herself and by striving to always learn. I have taken my own puppies and dogs to Barbara who definitely strengthened their socialization and skills to interact appropriately when around other pets. You will not be disappointed when taking your special family member to BJK9s Dog Behavior Services.

After rescuing two untrained Bichon-poodle mixes, one of whom had been abused and was very aggressive, we were at a loss as to what to do. Barbara Johnson's insightful and positive approach was the answer. Barbara counseled that the answer did not lie in instilling fear in the more aggressive of the two dogs, but rather in learning what was causing the behavior and then finding ways to change those factors. The turnaround has been remarkable. Initially, we didn't really understand what the term "behavior specialist" meant in regards to dog training; three months later, we most definitely do, and can't recommend Barbara or her methodology strongly enough.

Barbara is a true 'dog whisperer!' - she magically changes attitudes in not only dogs but people too. Her approach is all about positive reinforcement - no bullying or force required and results are impressive to say the least. In a short time our 'high energy' terrier learned to sit, come and stay - and is now getting over his 'leash aggression!' I was even more impressed and grateful that her techniques changed my boyfriend's 'why does the dog even need training' attitude. By showing him that training can be a lot of fun and create a bond Barbara turned him into a believer.
I recommend (and I do all the time) BJK9's to anyone who wants a happy dog and happy humans in their home.– Mary
