Question and answer

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Find an architect that you really resonate with and feel you can trust. Going through a design process for your building is both personal and significant financially and in many other ways. The relationship between client and architect is very important for the success of the project.

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. The architect should make their knowledge and their process transparent to the client, so there shouldn't really be any inside secrets.

Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?

A. The client should ask about all the things that matter to them. That may include style of design; process for design, permitting & construction; sustainability; health issues relating to building materials; cost; schedule; architect's experience with similar projects; all the things that may be important to the client.

Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?

A. It's best if the client can clearly describe the scope of the project they would like to do, and their budget range. In some cases the client is undecided about these things and needs an architect's input in order to have information to make these decisions. If that's the case, then it's helpful if the client can describe clearly the options they are considering.

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. We work to create "wholeness", integrity, at every level of the design and the design process. We actively engage the client in the design of their home or business space as part of creating places that will enhance their lives and support the earth. "Green" design and historic preservation are natural outgrowths of our approach.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. I love bringing all the aspects of my work together to make beautiful places that my clients will value. I enjoy the interactions with clients and all the people on the design and construction team. I enjoy working out designs the meet all the needs of the project. I enjoy the technical aspects of the work. When I hire architects and other to work in my firm, I choose people who love what they do and are devoted to creating wholeness in the built environment.
