Introduction
Please note that I DO NOT teach in the city midweek or weekend evenings. I live and teach in the East Bay afternoons into early evenings. I have been teaching tennis for almost 40 years and love to share my passion for the sport with my students of all ages and skill levels Thumbtack has been a major source for finding clients and my 90+ 5 star ratings is something I'm quite proud of. My lessons are certainly instructional but having fun learning is one of the significant keys for success and I definitely stress the fun part of learning or honing already sophisticated skills. I relocated to the West Coast, from New York, in 2014 to join members of my immediate family (and because I got sick of shoveling snow.) What I have done so successfully on the East Coast, I am now doing on the West Coast. I HAVE TO MENTION THAT I TEACH ONLY IN THE CITY OF SAN FRANCISCO AND, IN THE EAST BAY, ONLY IN THE RICHMOND - OAKLAND CORRIDOR. My schedule doesn't allow me to travel outside those areas for lessons. I spent 30 years teaching English and journalism on a high school level and coached varsity boys and girls since 1985. After retiring from "the classroom," I began teaching tennis full time at various clubs in the New York, Long Island area. Leaving the New York tennis scene was not easy since I had the wonderful opportunity to nurture many tennis relationships and I continue doing so on this side of the country.

Fred is excellent. He’s incredibly perceptive and will spot all the details that will almost instantly improve your game. He’s also fun to take lessons with. He keeps sessions lively, he has a great sense of humor, and he’s clear in his communication. He has a variety of ways to teach and uses them effectively to help you up your game. He’s also very easy to deal with when it comes to scheduling and communication. I can’t recommend him highly enough.

I have been learning tennis with Fred from this Summer, and it has been a great experience. When I met Fred, I was a beginner who had just bought a tennis racket for the first time. Now, six weeks have passed, and I can tell that I have improved so much, especially in my forehand, backhand, serve, and footwork. All that can't be achieved without his professionalism in teaching me. He tried to teach me everything and make sure that I was not overwhelmed. I have to say that I'm not a fast learner, but he always encourages me not to give up and feel sorry about myself. He always gives me valuable feedback so I can improve my game. I am thrilled to have found him as my Tennis teacher.

I just had my first lesson with Fred and I am hooked! The hour went by so fast. I have been playing tennis for some time but never really learned the basic fundamentals of the tennis game ( foot work, racquet path, shuffle steps). Within the first 20 mins, Fred was able to identify my biggest areas of opportunities and showed me step by step on ways to improve. Footwork is not the most glamorous part of the game but I know getting that part right will greatly improve my consistency and confidence on the court. By the end of the hour, my forehand was a complete 180. Next up, my backhand and my serve.:) I left the court feeling so energized and excited to see where I can take my game with Fred's guidance. So happy I found him!

Fred has been doing a fantastic job of teaching all three of my young teen/tween kids at once. They were complete beginners when they started and now they have developed great looking swings. Fred is truly a fantastic teacher, he had them hitting gracefully within a couple of lessons. His gifts are not just his own ability to play tennis, but the ability to actually teach those skills effectively to others. Working with Fred during Covid was a lifesaver for me and my kids. He got them happily exercising while learning tennis!!

So fun to hang out with and learn from Fred. After not having played tennis in years, our first lesson with Fred got us excited for more lessons and practicing on our own.
