I offer counseling services in Arcata, California.
Many times the journey of counseling is initiated by a life crisis, when one’s resources have been exhausted and it is time to gather more tools for life’s tool box. It is an act of strength to reach out, not a weakness. My diverse counseling career has prepared me to work effectively with people from various walks of life.
I am not a fixer, I see myself as a facilitator of change. One of my main goals as a therapist is to teach people skills needed to increase feelings of independence and empowerment.
Loss, Grief and Life Transitions are my main specialty areas. Loss is an ever-present aspect of life yet so few are prepared to deal with it. Loss comes in many forms throughout life. The more we know about the process of grief, the better we are able to effectively address our ongoing life losses.
In general, I meet people where they are, and let them lead me to where they want/need to go. I believe we all have our own answers. With guidance, support and encouragement we can discover them.
Question and answer
Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A. Make sure you have a good fit with the therapist you choose. The way the therapeutic process works is through the therapeutic relationship so without a good match the process is likely to be less than satisfying.
Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?
A. How does therapy work? What is your clinical experience? What are your areas of specialization and expertise? What is your treatment population? What age groups do you work with? Why did you choose this profession?
Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?
A. Same as above.
Q. What do you like most about your job?
A. I find it an ultimate honor to witness the people I counsel as they move out of the darkness and into the light. It is so exciting to see them connect the dots of their lives and learn more about what they need to be healthier, happier human beings.
