FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
My hourly fee for individual, couple and family therapy ranges from $125 - $175. Call for an estimate regarding your specific therapy needs and goals. Fees are determined on a case-by-case basis to accommodate clients' insurance, time required and frequency of sessions. This is best clarified in our initial phone conversation. :: If we are a good fit and you would like to take the next step, we will schedule an appointment in either my Berkeley or Vallejo office. Ease of geographic proximity from home or work to my Berkeley or Vallejo office locations is another important factor to consider when evaluating compatibility. :: In order to be successful, psychotherapy requires time and financial commitment. We discuss pricing and time available for psychotherapy services in our initial telephone call or session, including how mental health insurance can help with costs. We will also talk about your therapy needs and goals and how best to accomplish these. ::
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
After an initial telephone conversation, we set an office appointment to meet and continue from there. A good psychotherapy or counseling relationship begins more successfully when we take time in the initial phone conversation to discuss your therapy needs and goals, and to answer any questions about starting therapy. :: Typically this includes questions about whether working individually, as a couple or as a family would best address your presenting concern. We discuss fees and how to access insurance benefits. :: Each client comes with different concerns. My approach is always to listen and understand how best to be helpful in meeting your therapy needs and goals.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
My formal education includes professional training in 2 Masters level graduate programs. I have a Masters degree in Clinical Social Work (MSW- 1975) and also a Masters degreee in Clinical Psychology (MA- 1978). :: After graduating, I completed 2 additional years of clinical supervision and successfully completed requirements for the California State licensing exam, receiving my LCSW license in 1979. Since then I have continued my clinical training in psychotherapy theory and technique for close to 40 years. I am a Past-President of the Association of Family Therapists. My clients are always my best teachers. ::
