About
Brides love how I make them look, brides and grooms love how I interact with the guests and make everyone feel very relaxed. check out my stuff at my main website. For family photography I'm really good with kids - guess that comes from having six of my own! I know how to get the best out of shy children and hesitant adults. I really enjoy talking photos of people which is why I prefer this type of photography rather than taking photos of food, or buildings or houses! Faces rather than places is the rule. I think about this a lot! It's the people of course. Watching the bride and groom smile and glow on the day. I'm a people person - this is, I believe, a hallmark of the best photographers and videographers. They love being around people and folks respond to that. Wedding photography and videography is definitely a high-stakes play for photographers - there are no "second chances" to get those great shots. You can't re-shoot stuff so it's a very exciting day for a professional. It's an adrenalin rush! The energy bounces back off your subjects and is picked up by the camera. The same for portraits and headshots - I especially like working with kids and babies and grannies and grandpas - seeing the whole family generation together is very rewarding.

Mark was simply the most fantastic addition to our wedding. Even now, 5 weeks on we think Mark was the most outstanding professional we worked with across our entire wedding experience. Mark is a real people-person. You don't get to be that good unless you have an understanding and affinity for people. Mark's bright, enthusiastic personality and his ability to capture special moments helped make our wedding day a success and captured forever the elegance, excitement and magic of our special day. After our wedding, Mark was wonderfully responsive - our whole family love the beautiful photos and moments he captured. We are left feeling REALLY relieved we found someone like Mark to make our wedding experience unforgettable. :)

Everything from beginning to end with Mark was a positive experience! He took photos of our employees and was extremely friendly, professional, and really listened to what we wanted to accomplish. His expert opinion was invaluable in making sure our shots turned out suberb! Thanks Mark!

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

No complications on pricing. I have a set fee, I try hard to work within your budget - I want you to have the best photographer you can afford and I won't be watching the clock during your session. This way you understand what the fees are going in and there are no surprises.

  • What types of customers have you worked with?

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Here's some great tips for brides (some of which I owe to other photographers on the web (thanks!)...here goes... Mark Laing Creative Photography Wedding photo tips - How to look great on your wedding day • Do get professional makeup! And a manicure for your fiancé's fingernails - for close-ups of the rings. • Stand slightly sideways to the camera, with weight on your back foot and your chin slightly up and your shoulders back. Turn your body to a 45-degree angle from the camera; lift your chin slightly up and out. • Tip from the top models - to reduce the chin slightly touch the top of the roof of your mouth with your tongue - it will make your chin flatter! • Have a dress rehearsal with your dress. Practice walking, sitting, kneeling and moving in your dress. It will help you look better in your pictures. • Practice bustling your dress to save time. • A bit of Vaseline on the front of your teeth can help you smile more easily. • Don't have the bachelorette or bachelor part the night before! Get plenty of rest! • Hold your bouquet at waist height to show off that (David's Bridal) dress. • Allow plenty of time between the ceremony and the reception. • Prep your family - now is not the time to be shy. • When kissing your bride or groom, do so slowly and hold it for a few seconds. • When kissing, hold your head straight up and make your noses side by side. • Interact with your photographer; show your emotions, and play out your wedding day and you always wanted it! • Stay hydrated. Keep powder and lip gloss close by for quick makeup touches. • See their work...a studio that has multiple photographers, confirm that you’ll get the pro whose pictures you admire most, rather than an unknown associate. Some photographers display award-winning images, but may send an assistant • Written contract? Don’t book a photographer who won’t provide a written contract. • Do you have liability insurance? Without liability coverage, the wedding couple can end up being liable for any injuries the photographer sustains while photographing the wedding. • Check references.
