Question and answer

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Of course there's a lot to consider when hiring a band for any event! How long the band has been in business, what types of events they done in the past and how sensitive are they to what you are wanting. Do you feel confident that they are wanting to provide the music you are wanting, or do you get the feeling that they already have their "agenda" in terms of their performance.

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. It’s very important to listen to sound clips! If you’re looking for an “authentic” sound, one thing that can stand out is the difference between playing simply all of the “correct notes” and improvising, compared to a more Caribbean sound. Rythem and intonation are very important! Just as in American music (like blues or soul music) there’s a huge different in the feel…generally the difference between playing the music correctly but sounding “white” and playing the music correctly and having “soul.” Sometimes you just can’t place it but you know that you will always feel it!

Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?

A. Are you professional, full-time musicians? What band sizes and configurations do you offer? How long have you been in business? Do you provide your own sound system? What are your pricing options? How much experience do you have with my type of event? What are you payment terms?
