I offer private, individual piano lessons for beginning and intermediate students. I hope to find students who love the art of music and would like to find their hidden talents!

I have received my bachelor's degree in Music Education as well as my teaching credential in music from California State University, Sacramento. I have many years of experience performing as a classical, gospel, and improvisatory pianist, and teaching lessons to students of all ages. I am registered with MENC, the Music Educator's National Conference, CMEA, the California Music Educator's Association, and ACDA, the American Choral Director's Association. I am also the Oakland Tabernacle Music Director, where I regularly play the piano and organ.

You or your child's lessons will include: theory, sight reading, ear training, improvisation, technique, and an overall grasp on the concept and art of playing the piano! I am very flexible with the methods I use, tailoring my instruction to the individual student.

I will teach from my home or the location of your choice for a small travel fee. Each half-hour-per-week lesson is $20 bringing the monthly total to $80.

Please call or email to set up our first lesson. I am patient, easy going, and fun, and I can't wait to meet you!

Question and answer

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Look for a piano instructor that will connect with you, is flexible in their methods, individual in their approach, and understands your musical goals.

Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?

A. It may be helpful to ask yourself these questions:

What are my musical goals? How will piano lessons help me to achieve those goals?
Am I willing to spend the time and money to be successful at this endeavor?
Am I getting a piano instructor who is attentive to my musical goals and needs?

To get the most from piano lessons, you must be willing to practice consistently on your own time. Knowing what type of music you would like to play and what you are pursuing in receiving piano instruction is also important.

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. In addition to classical methods and training, I am a gospel and improvisatory pianist. This gives me the ability to train my students to play by ear as well as learning to read music. I use a variety of book and teaching methods depending on the student's age, ability, and goals.

These methods include Piano Town, Music Tree, Piano Adventures, Thompson, Schwaum, Play by Choice, and no method at all for those who simply want to learn how to read chord charts and lead sheets.

If you have a method you would prefer to use or continue with, I am open to teaching that method, supplementing any inadequacies with my own materials and instruction.
