Introduction: We care! Our classes offered are ongoing which allows clients to start at any time. No waiting for the next session. We cater our training to each particular dog and owner's needs and levels making classes fun and unique. We limit our group classes to only 6 dogs so our clients receive a lot of one one one attention. We also offer in home private training for those hard to fix behaviors or day training for those who keep a busy work schedule with little time at home with the dog. With combined total of over 19 years of experience in the behavior and training world and work within shelters we have had the benefit of working hands on with a wide variety of dogs. As a result, our understanding of how dogs communicate and reading their non-verbal language to best assess them is strong. We don't need to succumb to using force, intimidation or coercion with training. Our goal for our clients is not to build a solid sit behavior but to build a long lasting relationship for everyone through the value and power of positive reinforcement training. I thoroughly find joy in helping pet owners build a long-lasting relationship using only force-free training. I believe “you can teach an old dog new tricks”! It’s truly about helping teach the dog to want to do what you want them to do through building a loving, cooperative and trusting relationship.

Sarah was so wonderful and sensitive to my dogs triggers and fears. She turned my dog who was feral in Mexico for years into a confident house pet in no time! Sarah does a wonderful job at explaining exactly how to communicate with your dog efficiently and exactly what we are teaching our dogs to do in a controlled environment will translate into scenarios at home and on walks. With my personal dog, who had never worn a collar or walked on grass before at the age of 4 yrs old, Sarah had her sitting in a matter of minutes, and after a few short weeks, I had a wonderful dog that would pay attention to me and she is always checking in with me to see what I want her to do. Sarah is a wonderful trainer, and her group lessons are very personal, where she learns about everyone dogs and their issues and teaches us how to overcome our individual concerns.

I was referred to Sarah by a client and she was amazing! I have a Chocolate Lab pup(Kai) and got her started right away at 8 weeks. Sarah was able to engage her right away and Kai seemed to learn very quickly. Learning to reward her for doing good like going outside (to go), it really worked well. Using her clicking technique with the clicker device really got Kai to perform on command.Within a week, she was performing quite well. Kai is now 13 months old and she has never chewed anything up. She is still very much a puppy and wants to play fetch constantly, she's the best behaved dog we've ever had thanks to Sarah. Her follow up was amazing and she really cares and loves what she does.

Sarah really understands dogs and their humans. Her kind, gentle and intelligent approach to training is wonderful. We all learned how to get what we wanted from each other. Sarah's classes are fun and informative and she is so willing to help and answer questions. We loved the small class format and the hands on approach.

FAQs

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

A brief phone call or conversation via email is ideal so we can get a good understanding of what their goals are for training- whether group or private. For private training, we have an extensive consultation form so we can obtain as much history on the dog, activities and relationships with family members as possible. This allows for a smooth consultation where we can maximize our time spent on hands on training and discussion.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

All trainers have at least one of the following: Karen Pryor Academy Certified Training Partner Certified Professional Dog Trainer Animal Behavior College

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Always be sure to do your homework! Read testimonials or ask for references and credentials. Be sure you go with your gut and what is in your dog's best interest. Some may claim they use 100% positive reinforcement but they indeed use many corrections and aversive methods- NOT NECESSARY! It IS possible to train a dog without using intimidation, coercion and fear! Pay me now, or pay me later. Cheaper isn't always better. :)
