Question and answer

Q. Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.

A. The most common types of jobs I've done are residential, stucco, manufactered, and mobile. They are looked at from top to bottom, inspecting everything from slabs and support jacks, attics and small crawl spaces and custom built basements. Additions to homes and added second stories are something that are closely inspected.

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. I would like to know if this person inspecting my home is licensed and insured. There is nothing secretive about the home inspection business, there should never be. Being open about what is done in always the best policy.

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. I'm very detailed oriented. I make sure that all questions are answered to the best of my ability in a professional manner. I'am licensed and insured, there is many in this field who are pulling inspections without these qualifications.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. I'm satisfied knowing that I have given homeowners or prospective buyers the peace of mind about the biggest investment they will make.

Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

A. Customers will ask me if I can make the repairs on the areas of the home that need attention. I inform then that it is against the integrity of my license that I cannot make the repairs, but can suggest they contact a licensed contractor .

Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?

A. I've always been intrigued by the construction of homes, old and new. Seeing how they come together and how well they are constructed is the most critical part of a persons investment. I'm also semi retired and see Home Inspections as a good way to supplement my income, something I can do for years.

Q. Do you do any sort of continuing education to stay up on the latest developments in your field?

A. As a CREIA (California Real Estate Inspection Association) member, we are required to have 30 continuous and educational hours per year in order to keep membership. The seminars are to keep us abreast of all new materials, tools, and licensing requirements in this field.

Q. What are the latest developments in your field? Are there any exciting things coming in the next few years or decade that will change your line of business?

A. Green Energy is going to impact all of us, eventually more and more homeowners will opt for one or more types of sustainable energy. And with this will come the need for inspectors who can look at green energy units and detect areas that need attention. This need will be huge in the next two decades for Energy Auditors.
