"I want to thank you for the transition service provided by Blue Cloud Video on transferring some of my family’s old home movies to a digital format. It will enable us to preserve the memories indefinitely. I found that in many cases you were able to improve the quality of the original and must have worked hard to “save” some that were obviously in bad condition. Looks like a job well done and there will be more film forthcoming in the future that we’ll need to have transferred as well. Thanks again, we’ll be talking to you. "

Question and answer
Q. Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.
A. Old films from the 60's.
Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A. Feel free to shop around. Get samples of their work before you send all of your film. If they won't provide a free sample, go somewhere else.
Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?
A. What would be the best film transfer for my films? This is usually a one time event. My secret is to provide you with the following: High quality film transfer, opportunity to get your raw film files on a hard drive so one can edit on their own computer, we offer custom DVD's to provide a gift to their family customized by the customer, and finally, customer service. We have been transferring film since 2002 and absolutely love what we do, and want to provide the highest quality to our customers.
Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?
A. We transfer 8mm film, super 8mm film and 16mm film. If you have sound film, we can only transfer super 8mm magnetic and 16mm optical. If you need help determining what type of film you have, or lengths, this link should help a little..

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?
A. We transfer your precious films using Frame by Frame equipment. Each of your films are cleaned and spliced onto larger reels. We custom edit your film and color correct every film for free. This ensures an accurate transfer, and provides a quality check. We also provide you with new reels and plastic cans for storage of your films. Finally, we utilize jewelboxes for your DVD's or BluRay to showcase your films.
Q. What do you like most about your job?
A. Seeing my customer's faces when they re-live their past by watching films they haven't seen in 30 years.
Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A. How much does it cost? $0.20/foot (and custom options).
Q. Do you have a favorite story from your work?
A. We transferred old behind the scenes Rolling Stone footage. We did another project where we searched through old news station 16mm film to find a 15 second clip.
Q. What do you wish customers knew about you or your profession?
A. I am a mechanical engineer with a passion for preserving the past and living the present. Most companies send out their customer's films because they don't want to deal with the hassles of film transfer. Not here. We keep the quality in house.
Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?
A. We started out creating photo video albums for weddings and birthdays. When people started to have their old films transferred and included in their videos we wanted to provide the highest quality. After many years of experimenting, we have found the highest quality method.
Q. Tell us about a recent job you did that you are particularly proud of.
A. We transferred the entire library of a customer with the order totalling over $4,000. He had VHS, 8mm films, slides and photos.
Q. Do you do any sort of continuing education to stay up on the latest developments in your field?
A. Not really. I am an avid photographer and mechanical engineer, so I am automatically up to date...
Q. What are the latest developments in your field? Are there any exciting things coming in the next few years or decade that will change your line of business?
A. High Definition looks like the top of the quality scale for film transfer. Any higher quality won't provide any benefit due to the limitations on the film. 3D TV's are coming out now...we can't transfer your film in 3D because it needs to be shot in 3D (at this time). Uploading films to facebook or YouTube is a popular choice.
Q. Describe your most recent project, what it involved, how much it cost, and how long it took.
A. Our most recent project is moving to California. We are trying to create a customer base here at least as big as we had in Michigan.
Q. If you have a complicated pricing system for your service, please give all the details here.
