Question and answer

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. You must feel comfortable with a bookkeeper. Ask for referrals, after all this person will have access to your financial and personal information.

Ask questions, How many years have they been in business? Will they work at your place or remotely? How will they safeguard your information?

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. Bookkeeping is not as scary as it looks and is vital to all businesses. Not just to pay your taxes but to use this information to increase sales and lower costs. I learned the hard way and I've worked with many other businesses that were afraid, or just didn't want to deal with this part of business or worse, don't feel they can afford a good bookkeeper. Understanding your financial info is as important as marketing and sales.

Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?

A. Have an idea of what you need done. How many bank accounts, credit card accounts do you have? Do you have a bookkeeping system now and how organized is it? Also, have a budget in mind or perhaps a do not exceed $ in mind.

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. We are not just bookkeepers, we offer more. We can handle all your bookkeeping, payroll and tax prep but we work with you to make sure you understand your financial information and use it as a tool to increase your sales, price your product or service right, valuate your business, set goals and achieve them.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. helping other small business owners create a business. Teaching them not just to have a job but to create and asset that has value.

Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

A. How much do you charge? I always laugh because-- I get it. I am a small business owner too and it's hard to hire someone when money is tight. A good bookkeeper will save you money in the long run though. I'm much less than a full time employee and much less than handing a box of receipts to a CPA.

Having your books properly prepared and making sure you are taking all the deductions you are entitled to as well as making sure there are no mistakes that could cost you is well worth our fee.

Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?

A. A friend asked me to help her understand how to use Quickbooks. I then started teaching others. I realized there were so many small business owners that had no clue how to use Quickbooks and worse many didn't even understand their financial information. I decided to offer more than just bookkeeping after working with some larger companies and watching how they used their financial information.
I saw that many small business owners were just like me...we wanted to be our own boss but what we really did was create a nice job for ourselves, not a business. A company with a value that can be sold.
I struggled to take my business to the next level because I couldn't get the information I needed on how to do it. It's more than just selling more. It's about branding, creating systems, marketing and sales. Every aspect of your company should have a system, written down and followed by all employees and you so that your company can function independent of you. Once you can do that you have a company not just a nice job.
