I wanted a cabinet that would hold books, CDs and so forth. I also wanted a cabinet to put a TV on. The cabinet for the books and CDs needed to be on wheels so as to allow us to get to the wall behind it and open a door for a storage compartment. Two cabinets were made, one that is on casters and one for the TV. I initially contacted Sara and Rodrigo and told them what we were looking for. They came out and did measurements and pictures of the area in question and shortly after that they submitted a proposal with the price. A couple months later when we decided to go ahead with the project, the cabinets were created and brought over to install. We were very pleased with the overall experience. I found myself spending time just staring at our new furniture and enjoying how it looked in my office. It really has made a difference in the overall look and feel of the room. Great work!

My house was built in 1930 and except for changing the counter top, the flooring and the sink, the kitchen and laundry room had never been upgraded or remodeled. Rodrigo at RBF design had done some work for me before which I loved and I decided to have him remodel my kitchen and laundry room. He gutted them both down to the studs, and replaced everything -- drywall, floor, ceiling, and, of course, the cabinets. He built the cabinets out of premium cherry, which we decided not to stain. He just varnished them and they are absolutely stunning. The cabinet doors are all hardwood -- not just veneer -- and the quality of the workmanship is superb. He built and installed the cabinets, installed the drywall, painted, and installing the backsplash. His attention to detail is outstanding and I cannot recommend his services enough. Rodrigo and I designed the kitchen together, with him providing many of the fine details like using soft closing/self-closing hinges. Once the design was done, he measured and built the cabinets, without demolishing the existing kitchen. This meant that while he built the cabinets (which is time consuming) I still had a working kitchen. Once the cabinets were ready, it was time to start the demolition. From the start of demolition (which included taking down a wall between the kitchen and the laundry room, breaking up and removing an old saltillo tile floor) and re-drywalling all the walls and the ceiling) until the time the kitchen was completed, was approximately 4 weeks. Obviously, this was a real plus since it meant we only had to cook on a camp stove and have the major appliances stored in the dining room for a remarkably short period of time. Rodrigo is very professional, has a great sense of humor, is personable and, above all else, is a fantastic master craftsman.

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

Because we custom-build each piece to our clients' needs and preferences, we put together individual estimates for each project, based on type of materials (i.e., type of wood, finish, etc) and measurements for the project. We aim to get estimates to our clients within a day or two of discussing the project, unless there are unusual components that we need to source, which make take a little bit longer.

  • What types of customers have you worked with?

We get many requests for different types of custom furniture: desks, bookshelves, bedframes, treehouses, garden bridges, you name it. We also have many requests for cabinetry for kitchens, offices, etc.
