Question and answer
Q. Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.
A. Most common is virus removal, upgrades, and data recovery.
Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A. If your computer is giving you problems, start taking notes. Every time you get an error message, jot it down verbatim. This can save your tech (who bills by the hour) a ton of time they might have spent troubleshooting.
Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?
A. With a little scheduled maintenance, your computer can last for years and years. It doesn't have to take a lot of time, money, or know-how to keep your PC in peak condition.
Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?
A. Just details on their computer - the more the better. For instance, know which version of Windows you're using. Know how much RAM you system has (ask me, I'll tell you how to find it.) If you're getting an error, note what it says.
Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?
A. I bring a friendly personal touch to tech support. I explain things in a way as to make them simple. Too many techs use jargon and hate explaining things. Not me!
Q. What do you like most about your job?
A. The variety. Working with different people, seeing different parts of Los Angeles, and new issues that help keep me sharp.
Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A. Should I upgrade my existing computer or replace it with a new one? How can I keep my computer fast?
Q. Do you have a favorite story from your work?
A. Spent four days teaching Microsoft Project for the Los Angeles County Coroner's office. Bought a coffee mug at their gift shop!
Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?
A. Back in 1983 I learned BASIC programming on a TRS-80 computer. More fun (to me, anyway) than writing a program was debugging ones that were already written. I am a natural born troubleshooter.
