Introduction: I'm an expert educator as well as being a veteran pro musician, so it's easy for me to discover exactly what someone needs to do and program the lessons in the most fun manner possible. Marty was my music teacher and instructor when I was a teenager, right before I got signed to a record label as an artist and is my music teacher and instructor now still after many years. He helped me get to the next level musically and now that I'm with him I have improved my rhythm and singing. Some of the things we work on musically are unison's, different rhythms and meters, chord progressions and harmonies. Marty doesn't only give me the simple music techniques, he has additional techniques that has specific purpose i.e. special breathing techniques, techniques for word pronunciation because some of my stuff is in the rap/rock genre as well as techniques that intertwine with musical techniques. We work on each technique until they are perfect and that is something that has truly allowed me to grow. Since I have been studying with Mar\ty my confidence as an artist and singer has sky rocketed and I have been able to create music. I have a second album coming out and playing a large show in Russia this month and Marty has helped me be able to achieve my goals musically. Deuce www.deucela.com

Besides being a go to in demand player, Marty is a gifted, versatile and sensitive teacher. If youre lucky enough to have found him and are currently studying with him or have in the past, then you probably are about a million miles ahead of where you thought youd be when you began lessons. If you dont live in L.A., where he teaches, hell teach you on the phone or on Skype just as easily as if you were sitting next to him in person. I met Marty through my former piano teacher. It was time for me to get out there and play in a band, and I was terrified. Marty was conducting workshops for nervous adult rookies like me and put us together in different band configurations in a rehearsal studio every week with him. At first the sessions were mostly train wrecks, but the bands quickly become cohesive because of Martys incredible guidance that created confidence and strength in each of us. We all loved these sessions, and many of beginners went on to play gigs. As a former drummer and piano player, I knew for sure that Marty possessed everything a teacher needed to be great. In addition to teaching, He writes, arranges, and produces, which just adds to his contributions as a teacher. I am starting lessons with him again while living in another city. I am now studying the vibes! Ive only had one lesson so far, and it was on the phone because its easier then Skype with the way my equipment is set up. It was like he was right there with me. Like he says, I dont have to see you to hear you! He gave me the exact assignment I needed to study to start out. In just one lesson I was able to do some things that I never could before. Though pretty basic, I thought that if this is just a first lesson, Im going to be playing at the Montreux Jazz Festival in a month. :-) Martys love of teaching is obvious. Im one of the lucky ones.

I studied electric bass with Marty. Started as an absolute beginner and progressed to being in several bands! To this day I still have the knowledge he imparted to me. He is a patient kind and very wise teacher for all ages and levels.

Someone saw me play at a gig and asked me if I would teach him. I did. I liked it!

Speak to the instructor and get a feel for how you work together. See his/her website, of course, but talk with them so you can get a personal feel for things.
