I’m a medical school student at UCLA. I am a professional tutor, and I have tutoring experience with a tutoring company for over 7 years. I have taught over 300 students with great results. I have tutored with sylvan and tutorsource.

I offer special rates for group tutoring. Money back is guaranteed

My approach centers around the core principle which every student has individual learning styles and unique abilities. Some recent students have gone from failing to achieving A's on exams in just two sessions. I analyze constantly what a student does and doesn't understand by means of my mastery of the material to devise problems which facilitate comprehension in weak areas. Many of my students have achieved beyond what they ever thought possible. My goal is to significantly increase your skills, understanding of concepts and overall school performance while developing confidence and forging a positive attitude toward the subject.

Locations include West LA, South Gate, Valley, Glendale, Burbank, Pasadena, San Gabriel Valley and San Marino. I could travel to students' homes or preferred place at no extra cost.

Testimonials:

"It has been our pleasure and privilege to know George through his academic work with our two sons, Zeke and Mack. We first engaged George in 2004 to do SAT preparation work with Mack, after that a senior in high school. Though he was an able student, Mack experienced lack of confidence and a fair amount of anxiety in relation to test-taking, and we asked George to work with him with the specific aim of improving his performance and approach to the SAT. In a relatively short moment (a couple of months), Mack was able to increase both his math and verbal scores at around 150 points, from the mid-500's to the 700 range.

In September, 2005, we again contacted George and asked him to teach our younger son, Zeke, who’s in seventh grade in the Notre Dame Middle School. This time, we had various goals in mind. Zeke is an exceedingly able student who’s been involved in talented and gifted programs from his early years in school; however, it was our feeling that these programs were giving him less and less as time went on; hence, our first purpose in asking George to work with him was to give a level of enrichment and mentorship that we felt was appropriate and needed. Moreover, a year early, we’re planning to apply to private high schools, and we thought Zeke could have an advantage from some introduction to the SSAT needed for secondary school admission. During the time that George and Zeke were working together, Zeke was chosen to join in the Johns Hopkins talent search administration of the seventh graders’ SAT, so that became a third focus of their effort.

We feel that the moment Zeke has spent with George this year has been a priceless experience for him. Our concrete goals were certainly achieved; Zeke got a place in the 99th percentile in the SSAT, would be attending Concord High School in the fall, and got one of the highest scores in the California state in the Johns Hopkins program. But of much greater value to him has been the simple scope of learning that has taken place. George has stretched Zeke's horizons considerably.

George has a number of unique characteristics as a tutor that enable him to successfully function with very dissimilar students, as our 2 sons surely are. In fact, we would say without qualification that he’s a dedicated and the most gifted tutor that we’ve ever met. He takes care to communicate clearly and fully; he may be the only tutor has the ability to communicate with Mack, our older son. He can communicate sophisticated subject matter in a method that’s not only clear and suitable to the learner’s level, but maybe more significantly, in a way that is compelling and interesting. He respects his students, and our two sons have given back that respect. He asks and thinks, and boosts his students to do the same. He inspires. His own pleasure in teaching and learning is evident always. He has an uncanny knack for cutting right to the heart of the subject, and maybe because of that, he seems to have the ability to comprehend what it is that each student specifically needs from him, and to custom his approach depending on that need. In his job with Zeke, he has gone far further than the call of duty, looking for sources of information and tools for him, and in some instances, studying the material himself for the first time for him to pass it on to Zeke. Deeply, he cares about teaching and about his students.

We are gratified to know George, and feel supremely fortunate that we’re able to call on a talented someone to teach our sons. We wish that what has transpired so far will be only the start of a long and fruitful relationship.

Thank you, George!

Sincerely,

Stan and Jody Bolton "

“After tutoring for ten weeks with George, our son Cort's SAT score went up 250 points. You could imagine our delight. We’re more than thrilled with Cort’s score and with the job George has done as a tutor.”

– Ken and Monica S. (parents of student)

"George is wonderful! Put bluntly, most tutors do not possess his level of intelligence and insight, and so I always felt I could do better by the kids myself, despite the parent/child complications. It is so great to have someone I can actually trust my kids' learning to, while at the same time removing the parent/child dynamic. If an appropriate opportunity comes up to recommend him, i will definitely be doing so!"

- parent of both 3rd and 6th grade students at an independent school in Bel Air

"My son's tutor is terrific! He's high-energy, positive and focused. He made a big difference with my son's writing skills and really helped his confidence. Thanks."

-Tricia M., parent of an 10th grade student at an independent school in West L.A.

"My daughter was given the award for most improved in Mathematics! Thank you!"

- parent of 4th grade student, Glendale, CA

"Our son Janos was a strong student in math in high school; however, college calculus hindered him in his tracks. He felt discouraged and defeated. George clarified the math and provided support which allowed him to regain his personal confidence. I wholeheartedly recommend him"

- Shane, parent of a college student, Westwood, CA

"You’ve been an essential support for him, both in giving the depth of comprehension that’s missing from classroom teaching, and in giving him a model of how to be glad and victorious on one's own terms. The progress in his math grades has been dramatic, and the change in his behavior has affected every part of his schoolwork for the better. I and Kevin are both very grateful, and we value your assistance far beyond its dollar cost. We are pleased that you’re willing to pursue working with him if he is in need of an occasional hand up in college.

Thank you again - we'll be in touch."

- Laura Paight

“So what my son is gaining is not bounded to improved test scores. Improving test scores is great, but it’s used to help enter college. The true payoff is in the self-confidence and self-knowledge that my son has gained. That confidence and knowledge will serve him his whole life. Thanks”

– Judey M. (mother of student)

“I just received my acceptance letter to UCLA, and could not have done it without George's help.”

– Sarah G. (student)

"What impresses me most about George is his patience. He is willing to explain an idea again and again. There were lots of concepts in algebra which I did not yet have a total grasp of. I frequently had to go over the same principle with George many times before I understood it. He’s always patient. What also impresses me is his ability to explain abstract or difficult concepts in a clear and easy-to-understand method. When explaining a math problem he frequently uses analogies, diagrams, and even models. Moreover, he didn’t expect me to study his way, but rather assisted me to look for the most convenient and productive means for me to learn. He only expected me to give my best as a student. He has a profound understanding of science and math, and is thus able to simplify to its elemental principles. He is approachable and amiable, and he is always accommodating with scheduling."

- Don, college student

"I couldn’t be happier with the help provided to my son. His tutor is an excellent communicator, has an intuitive approach to his learning and a terrific educational background for his needs. He is also a pleasure to work with and very accommodating with our schedule. I would, without hesitation, recommend him for tutoring to anyone that wants to see an almost immediate improvement in performance."

“Our tutor demonstrated firmness, patience, and care for the student. His service was flexible, commendable, and thorough. My daughter, in fact, takes pleasure in taking these exams now! I wish to engage his services again.”

– Dr. Ron A. (father of student)

"George was very helpful to me. Before, I’ve been getting kind of low grades on math quizzes. He guaranteed that after an hour with him I would get a higher grade on my next math quiz. From a 73, I went to a 95."

- Sonia, high school student

"Our son's tutor is truly a dream come true. Here's why: 1) he actually enjoys working with him and looks forward to it; 2) he's genuinely interested in his progress and success; 3) he's a pleasure to have in our home; 4) we can see his confidence and his skills improving. Thank you!"

-parent of a 6th grade student at Wildwood

"First, I want to let you know that things are going very well. Jake really likes George and he is doing a magnificent job in working with him. He just got back his first math test and scored a 96% on it! I think it’s been a great match of student and tutor."

- parent of 6th grade student, Sherman Oaks, CA

"I first began studying with George in November of 2007 when I was preparing for the GRE or graduate record exam. I have a learning disability, and I have always had some difficulty with certain concepts in Math. As a result of my work with George, I got a high score on the GRE which represents my real abilities."

-Robert S., parent of an 11th grade student
