Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: Unlike the majority of designers and decorators who are typically commissioned salespeople, I do NO retailing of merchandise whatsoever. Instead, my role is to listen carefully to YOUR needs and preferences, and then provide fresh & stylish solutions to your decorating dilemmas, along with all-important technical advice to help you avoid making co$tly mistakes -- you’re then free to shop wherever you like, and I can also shop with you OR for you regionally, as well as online if desired (including passing along any trade discounts when available). As a result of my retail autonomy, you’re assured I’ll never be maneuvering you into a given purchase or foisting a “sales pitch” on you, period (!). With my strong color sense, mixing fabrics/patterns is also a longtime specialty of mine, and I also zero in on what a homeowner’s OWN style is vs. imposing my personal taste/preferences. Additionally, I provide 2D/3D space planning with realistic room renderings so clients can test-drive various ideas on paper BEFORE buying or building (I utilized this skill in designing my own custom residence for which I also served as the general contractor – as a result of my careful pre-construction planning, there were NO change orders during our build). 2D/3D renderings are an especially helpful tool for those who have trouble visualizing. Given my graphics capabilities another option I've added in recent years is re-coloring exterior photos of a client's own home so they can SEE various color palette options, and I can also add/delete various architectural features/elements too. These specialized services are also provided remotely to clients with projects outside the region (e.g. “e-interior design”) via email, online, video, and phone communication. Lastly, as a result of my 25+ years experience, I've also been widely quoted as a design expert in the national media for articles on: Realtor.com (including featuring a photo of my own home), Redbook, Parade, U.S. News & World Report, FoxNews.com, Chicago Tribune (nationally syndicated columns), BobVila.com, Bed Bath & Beyond's blog, and the National Home Furnishings Assoc., et al. I've also written over a dozen feature articles on interior design for the 150-yr. old newspaper which serves western Nevada County in California's Sierra foothills where I've been based since 2004 (after relocating from Sonoma County where my business was founded in 1992). These and other decorating articles appear in the Library on the more detailed of my two websites, one of which is an overview/landing page. Overall, "there's no place like HOME" is a long-held sentiment of mine, so I deeply value the opportunity to help my clients bring their OWN vision of the ideal refuge from today’s hectic world to fruition...

Sam Jernigan of Renaissance Design Consultations is an insightful, creative and resourceful designer. I felt intimidated choosing a designer, but needed help selecting exterior and interior colors for a being-built custom home, as well advice for the layout of kitchen cabinets and kitchen design. Sam possesses a fine sense of color and the theoretical knowledge to back it up. She gave us guidelines for selecting paint, roof and masonry colors and made sure our choices were in accord visually. She was insightful regarding the color requirements dictated by the exterior and interior architectural design: angles, shadows, light, etc. As our house began to shape up, many of the contractors, as well as the architect, complimented the colors we chose. Sam also helped us choose interior paint colors, totally respecting our desire for "no color" but gently nudging us toward a green-gray that is stunning with the tile and cabinetry chosen for the master bath. Her suggestion to maximize the storage potential of the pantry meant fewer wall cabinets in the kitchen proper--resulting in a much lighter and airy space. Sam helped me select area rugs--always educating me with underlying design principles (pun, I guess, sorry). She always communicated time and billing clearly, and always gave money-saving options--she's no design snob! Sam never made us wait long for an appointment, was always punctual, and was just so kind and cheering through the whole process. She is a wonderful human being. We LOVE everything about our new home and feel completely comfortable with all our choices. Couldn't have done it without Sam, though, and she gets our enthusiastic recommendation.

Maria was a JOY to work with over the space of appx. 10 mos. -- and while I did walk her through the selection of just the write shade of ivory for her walls (!), she surprised me by embracing the dramatic soapstone countertop w/ built-in farmhouse sink I suggested for the kitchen along with other aspects of color/pattern here and there to help add warmth to her handsome new home. The majority of the rendered kitchen elements I designed for she & her hubby were subsequently implemented too. Such a wonderful project and clients, and it's such a privilege to help homeowners building their just-right dreamhouse in particular -- I remember well the demands of that demanding process having gone through it personally in both designing as well as serving as the gen'l. contractor for my own residence.

Sam Jernigan was a huge help to me when I bought my little Victorian house in Nevada city. I was turning it into a vacation rental home, and having no experience decorating in the Victorian style, I hired Sam, who came highly recommended, to help me. With her knowledgeable advice, wonderful design ideas and expertise in the use of color, and I was able to create exactly the look I wanted inside. And she was fun to work with!

Sam has helped me select colors for two of my homes. Both times she listened to what I was hoping for, encouraged me out of my comfort zone, and both times the results were fabulous. My second house is one big open space and determining where to stop and start color was challenging. I took her advise and am so glad that I did. I highly recommend Sam

I first used Sam several years ago on a complete master bedroom and bath remodel. She was especially helpful with color choices, tile and lighting. Recently I was having trouble with colors to match draperies on a large two room family area and she came through (as I knew she would) explaining that a smoky color choice would get the result I wanted. Who knew what a "Smoky" color was?
