Question and answer

Q. Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.

A. The most common job is that of repairing broken furniture, mainly chairs. Repair work is a constant in my shop. Especially after the holidays.

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. The best advise would be to visit different shops to see their operation and the type of work they produce.

Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?

A. Do they know if their piece is painted and do they have the size of the item. Photos that can be sent via email are also helpful.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. Bringing a piece of furniture back to life and then seeing the customers face when they see their piece for the first time.

Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?

A. I had a part time job in an antique shop while in college. I enjoyed the job more than school. What I was doing had so much to offer as a career. I finished my AA in fine arts and opened my shop. Thus began my career restoring antiques.

Q. Do you do any sort of continuing education to stay up on the latest developments in your field?

A. I belong to a daily email exchange of restoration professionals from around the country. We share questions and answers and together raise the educational level of the restoration community.
