Wagner's has been teaching Kindermusik and class piano for 35 years to children between the ages of 0 and 18. The lessons are structured to include the parent(s) in a small class environment, which promotes family values and social skills.
The musicianship skills acquired are learned as a language in these fun and fast-paced 45-minute lessons once a week. The teachers are especially gifted in working within this structure - not a job for your average music instructor.
Working with kids requires a special person, but to work with the parents demands more - they must be able to relate to parents in a way that keeps them informed and engaged.
Kindermusik has received many professional accolades available for reading through the internet. The keyboard portion of Wagner's is a tried-and-true method for instilling those elements most important for young musicians.
Being able to play in a group, understanding the written note, and playing by ear - these and many more qualities are acquired by way of learning the most important first instrument - the piano. Free preview lessons are held regularly, and new classes for beginners start 3 times a year.

I have two young daughters and dreamed that music would be a part of our lives. Happily, I moved into a house very near to Larry Wagner"s labor of love, er, I mean music school three years ago and decided to give it a try. My older daughter (9) has been in keyboard classes and my younger daughter (4) has been in Kindermusic classes since that time. I'm not sure that I can convey how much this has enriched our lives. Suffice to say that I feel incredibly lucky to have found such a dedicated family of individuals to show me the way to make my dream come true. With humor, kindness and experience, they helped me navigate the fulfilling, yet often trying journey that is musical instruction. When my daughter sits down at the piano of her own accord to play a song because she really loves it, I know that the decision to commit to group lessons was the right one. It is the sweetest music I have ever heard.

Our son has attended Wagner's School of Music since he was 12 weeks old. His teacher, Ms. Kathy, really knows her stuff and has an easy way with young people. I have also learned a lot as she is very good at explaining things that the class is working on and how the activity benefits the children’s development. We are also provided with some materials to continue his musical exploration at home. I am especially pleased with the cultural diversity of the music my son is being exposed to in class.
The school is conveniently located with LOTS of parking. I also love that you can register for classes directly online. I would recommend this school to others looking for high quality music education for their children.

I can't say enough good things about Wagner's School of Music. My boys have excelled faster under Mr. Wagner's school than they did in private lessons. They play with so much more confidence! I love listening to them practice. Thank you Mr. Wagner!

I've been receiving lessons at Mr. Wagner's for almost nine years now and I'm still having fun! All of the teachers at Wagner's School of Music work to ensure that their students enjoy playing piano while pushing them to try harder songs that the kids like. I would definitely recommend Wagner's to any beginner to intermediate student.

My son has attended Wagner's School of Music for 8 years now. It has been a such a great experience for him. Reading music and playing the piano are skills that will stay with him for a long time. I believe that learning is social and the small classroom atmosphere facilitates continued growth and achievement. The teachers do a good job of helping the students learn at a rate that is right for them.

My son has been attending Wagner's for 3 years now. They are absolutely wonderful with the children. He is excelling and has learned to love the piano. We have used other instructors in the past with completely different results. Cyndy Tan makes it fun for the kids and Brett and Larry Wagner help them to develop a lifelong love of creating music. I highly recommend it.

My two girls have been attending Wagner's School of Music in La Mesa for about a year now and I have been very happy with their progress. The small classroom environment makes the lessons feel almost like private instruction while helping to make this long term endeavor affordable. The instructors do not come and go, and they are passionate and dedicated.

My son has been taking piano lessons at Wagner's for three years and has gone from a complete beginner to a competent musician. The comaraderie and friendly competition among the kids in a group learning environment, has been a plus. The teachers at Wagner's are fantastic! They have a unique way of teaching to the group, but also tending to the individual needs of the students. Wagners' students all recently performed at the semi-annual recital. The talent on stage was amazing; a true testimonial to how well kids learn at Wagner's.

Our family has attended Wagner's School of Music for almost 20 years! We wanted our children to understand and appreciate music and so we enrolled them for music lessons at Wagner's early on. The wonderful instructors at the school provide positive support, engaging instruction and personal interaction at all age levels. They are talented, kind and ethical mentors. The group lessons provide just the right combination of stimulation, competition and support to keep the children motivated and progressing. We continually marvel at how quickly our children became accomplished musicians while having a lot of fun. The strong musical foundation developed at Wagner's enabled our older children to gain entrance into advanced music programs - the vocal music program at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and sound design technology at The Conservatory of Recording Arts and Sciences. The musicianship and ear training developed in the group lessons provided the edge! Never would we have believed that those fun 45 minutes of weekly interaction would be life changing...yet change their lives it did! We still attend Wagner's weekly with our youngest and are enjoying his widening music interests as he joins middle school band at the advanced level because of the musical understanding gained at Wagner's. Whether you are looking for a life changing experience or a fun weekly event, you are sure to find a warm, supportive, musical environment at Wagner's School of Music that will meet your needs and expectations. They will welcome you to their family like they did us.

My son and I joined Kindermusik at Wagners' when he was just a toddler. We both enjoyed it very, very much and I would highly recommend it to all Moms or Dads. My son has continued at Wagner's in the Homeschool class that is offered for piano for the past 6 or so years. It has been an excellent fit for us and my son has learned to love to play the piano. He has been in recitals and is in class with other homeschoolers. Miss Cindy has been a great teacher and we've been with her from the beginning. She creates a balance between learning, playing and fun which the kids enjoy and look forward to. I have no doubt that everyone at Wagner's loves music and seeks to spread that to all their students as they encourage them to develope their skills.

My son started Piano lessons when he was five years old from a very reputable piano instructor here in San Diego. After a year or so it became clear that he was beginning to dread his piano lessons and practicing was becoming an unwelcome chore. That's when we heard about Wagner's from a classmate.
My son is now 12 and has been at Wagner's for about 5 years. He has been with the same group of six kids throughout this time - Wagner's teaches in small groups of 8 or less with kids of similar age and ability. His teacher throughout this time has been Mr. Bret (Wagner), a son of the founder, Larry Wagner. The kids view him as hip and cool, and he keeps the classes fun and energized. Parents are welcome to sit in on the classes, and most do.
This is a great place to introduce young kids to music. The classes are stimulating, interactive, and there's just enough friendly competition among the kids to keep them highly motivated to learn the material. My son actually looks forward to his class each week these days. I highly recommend this method of teaching for kids that aren't progressing using the traditional one-on-one methods.

If you want your children to learn piano and have fun in the process, Wagner's School of Music is the way to go. So glad that we found Larry. His methods work - period. And they involve the parent in the process in such a manner as to enahnce your relationship with your child. Both my kids can tickle the invory thanks to Larry.

My son started piano with Wagner's Music in 2008. He has excelled so far that we can not believe. The time and energy that these teachers that work there put into their students is amazing. And Mr. Wagner himself goes above and beyond to help each student be a success.

A. Try it out first. Wagner's offers regular preview lessons as well as discounts on first time family enrollments.
A. It's amazing how the music books are structured to have a very simple large-music-note page for the kids, and a corresponding parent page with the skinny on how parents can help at home.
A. How long have you been in business? How long does the average child stay with your program? How do you include the parents in the teaching and learning process? What is the requirement for practicing during the week? What testimonials have you received and are they available to look at?
