A. Is there company a nationwide provider? Are they on your insurance companies "Approved Vendor" list? Are they IICRC certified to perform water damage restoration / structural drying / mold remediation. Are they EPA RRP Lead Safe Certified? Do they carry General Liability / Workmens Compensation / Pollution Liability. Do they "Third Party" verify their mold remediation projects. A qualified professional restoration vendor should asses the damages with moisture meters and other survey equipment and recommend an appropriate action plan. The science behind water damage restoration is not fully understood by all providers. Sound drying science dictates what type and how much equipment will be required to dry any structure.
A. The amount of time building materials remain wet has a direct effect on the total time and cost to complete a restoration. As we all know "Time is Money", the Sooner you begin to dry a water damaged structure - the less absorption will occur greatly affecting the total cost of the damage.
Drying a clean water loss "In Place" should only happen in the first 24hrs after damage occurs. After 48hrs Bacteria or Mold can begin to amplify. After 72hrs visible mold growth is common, and the opportunity to dry porous materials "In Place" has passed. All porous materials should be removed and discarded as they are likely to be contaminated. Structural framing and other hard surfaces require sanitizing and drying.
The key is acting quickly to avoid costly demo, rebuilding, and extending project completion deadline.
