Survey findings and summary
Thumbtack.com, in partnership with the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, has released the new results from the second annual Thumbtack.com Small Business Survey. The 2013 study draws upon data from over 7,000 small business owners nationwide and shows that although small businesses rated the city poorly overall, Los Angeles showed improvement across most categories.
Some of the key findings for Los Angeles include:
- Los Angeles ranked among the most challenging cities for small businesses, who gave the city a 'D' overall. However, Los Angeles did manage to earn a 'B' grade for the ease of finding and hiring employees in the city. Among major California cities, Los Angeles placed mid-pack, behind San Francisco and San Jose, but ahead of San Diego and Sacramento.
- California earned a 'D' grade overall, up from an 'F' in 2012. Although the state struggled overall, it ranked above average for its online resources for small businesses.
