Question and answer

Q. Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.

A. SoCal-CPR focuses on keeping people working through our certifications which are required in many industries from healthcare to teachers to security to construction and much more.

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Look past the price and look for the value-added service you should receive. Does this company understand what I need? Will my training be meaningful - ie. retained and be remembered when an accident happens?

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. I wish more people looked as if this class really is more than a way to stay working - it's a way to save lives, often which could be a loved one.

Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?

A. What class they really need for their career? We get many people not really thinking ahead to where their career might lead them.

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. Why go to a class if you aren't going to remember anything?

Our instructors are all trained to understand how you learn so you can get the most out of your class. If there is something you want to know after your class we are always here for you - Satisfaction guaranteed!

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. We provide a service to those who need CPR certification for work - we keep people working!

Mainly though it's about making sure people are prepared to make a difference. Our students are relied upon to know what to do when an emergency comes up so we take pride in the fact that our students really go away feeling confident.

Personally, I get excited about teaching someone from an industry I haven't had a lot of exposure to as it gives me a fresh perspective of what tips I can provide to the next person in that industry.

Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

A. How do you know so much?

This is interesting as many times it feels as if I know more than the people I am teaching in regards to what their role is. I guess my 10 years plus in safety training all sorts of people has given me a wide perspective.

Q. Do you have a favorite story from your work?

A. I once had a guy excited after his class that he called his boss and said "I can come back to work tomorrow - I got my CPR card now!" It feels good putting people back to work.

Q. What do you wish customers knew about you or your profession?

A. That it takes a lot of patience and understanding of people as we all learn in slightly different ways. Teaching is an art - you are constantly looking for ways to make the experience more fulfilling for your class.

Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?

A. I started teaching in 1999 and through being a SCUBA instructor, safety training was a natural fit. Getting people to understand sometimes difficult concepts are my gift.

Q. Tell us about a recent job you did that you are particularly proud of.

A. I am proud of all the classes I teach but last month I helped two different students learn how to better care for their sick family member.

Q. Do you do any sort of continuing education to stay up on the latest developments in your field?

A. Con-Ed is exactly that - always learning something whether the latest news or developing a training technique to engage people. Thankfully I have a voracious appetite for knowledge.

Q. What are the latest developments in your field? Are there any exciting things coming in the next few years or decade that will change your line of business?

A. Hands-Only CPR is saving people with some impressive results but new CPR standards are just around the corner in November. Can't wait to see what changes will be implemented - I have my guesses.

Q. Describe your most recent project, what it involved, how much it cost, and how long it took.

A. Class last weekend for local pharmacists was pretty straightforward, costs were handled by a client of mine but were averaging around $45 per person, maybe less and class was done in 3.5 hours.

Q. If you have a complicated pricing system for your service, please give all the details here.

A. Pricing is based on simple principle - strength in numbers. The more people you have the better the price.

Q. If you were advising someone who wanted to get into your profession, what would you suggest?

A. Focus on American Heart Association training as that is the de facto standard at the hospital level. Want to teach and understand people, you have to like people!

Q. Write your own question and answer it.

A. Why is CPR given in hospitals not as effective as it could be?

It is simply because people get into a routine and quickly think that good enough is enough but these people should be focusing on perfection - they signed up to save lives!
