I also teach and direct theater, dance theater and theatrical movement. And I'm a fight choreographer for live productions as well, working with both hand to hand stage combat and classical European weapons. And sometimes we combine them all for a unique and lively production that will have you, your guests and/or audience on their feet! Classes/ rehearsals/ prep sessions can be anywhere from 1 day to several weeks. Please contact me to discuss your needs and we will find a plan that works for you! :)
A. Most forms of traditional Indian Dance are performed barefoot. So a broad, smooth floor surface is necessary for the dancer(s) to perform their work. This ensures both the highest quality performance for your event as well as the safety of the dancers. Portable dance floors can be rented for very reasonable rates for outdoor events. Concrete or brick surfaces do not work well for Indian Dance, and a rented dance floor will be needed. Most theaters have an appropriate floor for dancing in bare feet, and will just need to be clean and free of any bumps or nail heads portruding from the surface.
A. Kenwa is a dancer/actor/director & choreographer of 20+ years. She performs & teaches throughout the country to students & audiences of all ages. She combines her unique history of Eastern & Western Dance styles, yoga, martial art forms, sword & fight choreography to create a dynamic, focused, energized & empowering session. You will love the classes and love how you feel from dancing Bollywood!
A. I love encouraging, inspiring & helping people empower themselves by discovering the joy & fulfillment in what I teach!
A. Did you live in India?
Yes, for many lifetimes!!!!
A. The realm of Bollywood continues to be more accepted and embraced by the Western world. Its realms of spiritual practices, the film Industry and world of dance and fashion are being seen increasingly more at events, award shows, film festivals, in fitness studios and across the board. The color, majesty, and grandeur of the Indian world adds dimension, expression and vibrancy to the Western Culture(s). I am anticipating continued crossover works in all of these fields. We will see more Bollywood/Hollywood productions. Yoga, chant and meditation continue to help Westerners de- stress, relax and center themselves amidst the hectic American pace. The East/West blend of Fashion is stunning! Andthe food can't be beat. So it's not only fun but really a great idea for everyone to learn about Indian culture and dance through all its diverse activities! Time to Dance....!
A. My ability to bring joi di vivre to the event! I think on my feet- literally! And I love the spontaneity of doing a live event where anything can (and frequently) does happen! But the best part of performing and/ or teaching live is the INTERACTION with the audience and/ or guests. The EXCHANGE of energy is what it's all about. Film work is wonderful, but you don't get that same connection that you do from a live gig. It is the best! Trading jokes, laughing together at funny things that happen in the moment, feeling the magic as it unfolds- those are the things I treasure. And for those times and moments when I feel that something I have done has touched, moved or healed another person- that is priceless. And I hold it dear to my heart.
I'm also a fabulous teacher! I break it all down in laymen's terms, and explain the moves in a way that feel familiar and natural to ANY BODY :) We are all dancers. We sometimes just need another person to help us find our way!
