iDj is the brainchild of owner and DJ Marcos Rodriguez, whose vision was to unite DJs who could provide music for a full spectrum of events, and then group those events into one of two columns: formal and informal. This duality, or yin and yang, of iDj is expressed through its Party Rock and Elegance divisions.

The Party Rock division is being assigned to the full-scale, raging party while Elegance division is reserved for once-in-a-lifetime, milestone and corporate type of events. In both cases, our client is offered a professional who is versed in their ability to perform in both divisions.

    We were referred to iDj entertainment via one of Marcos’ associates that was already booked for our date. In the end, we couldn't imagine a better DJ. We are a young couple and he is younger too probably in his late 20s?- and is definitely in touch with what music is cool for dancing. We met with him twice and the second time we gave him a general playlist for dinner and dancing that he used as his base list and then filled in similar music. We also gave him a do not play list so that we would not have things such as the chicken dance- thank God! I don't think he really enjoys that kind of thing either so we were all on the same page. He also mc'd for us which was awesome to announce when we were cutting the cake and doing the garter toss, etc. There was a point in my wedding planning that I was actually considering not having a dj because I wasn't sure that a lot of my guests wanted to dance but I couldn't have been more wrong. I am sure the open bar helped but the music was great and had people dancing all night long. Including my older family members. These are people that usually hate dancing too. He was also great about working with our venue. He was required to work off a laptop and use the hotel's speakers and other details but thankfully he called the hotel manager in advance and found out he needed extra equipment that he doesn't normally have to take with him. I am so grateful he made that call and I think it speaks to his professionalism. I would recommend him for any occasion that requires the services of a DJ!

    "I was recommended to Marcos from iDj because he was someone who could work within my budget and was available on the date we had planned for our wedding, which was coming up must faster than either my fiancé or I had expected! This was my first time booking a DJ for anything and I was booking him for the most important night of my life! Obviously, I was freaking out a bit. Luckily, at our first meeting, Marcos turned out to be a complete pro but without being all about business. He was laid back, walked me through everything he needed from me and put me at ease. Marcos made it easy to design the music around the event, make changes as the planning came together and even pull a few adjustments on the actual night! I was completely blown away when I showed up to the venue with just how prepared Marcos was and how extensive his equipment and song list was! If any of my guests had a request, Marcos was on it! He worked fluidly with us and the venue to make sure that everything was set up on time and working through out the night! And he did a GREAT JOB of keeping things running and upbeat all night! When it was time to bring things down, Marcos knew the right song. When it was time to get people up and dancing, he had the perfect track! With having to plan our own wedding and with everything that went into it, we probably only gave Marcos a handful of "must play" songs. From there, he planned out the rest of the track list and we could not have been happier! No complaints here but plenty of recommendations!"

    My husband and I had a very specific desire for our wedding day: we wanted all of our guests to feel exhausted from the fantastic party by the end of the night. We realized right a way that music was the key component to make our wish come true. We found Marcos largely by accident at a nightclub in Los Angeles.     It was an absolute pleasure working with IDJ Entertainment during our whole wedding planning process. From the beginning Marcos was very accommodating to our busy schedules and was willing to meet with us at any time and place that was most convenient for us. He has done various events and is definitely an expertise in the field. However, if he had any doubts or questions he always made sure to clear it up with us and even worked with our wedding coordinator at La Venta during the year to make sure that everything would run ok for the wedding day. He allowed us to share our ideas with him and he gave us his professional recommendations to help smooth out our wedding day schedule. In addition, he was very easy to reach and very prompt in answering emails or addressing any concerns that we may have had.

    Our venue was very unique in that it consisted of many rooms instead of just one reception room so we were concerned that our guests would get lost or confused during the event. However, the wedding day was a huge success for us and Marcos definitely helped the whole night run a lot smoother by successfully directing our guests from one room to another and making sure that everyone was on the same page. Marcos was also a terrific MC. His professionalism balanced with his sense of humor and warm personality added flavor to the night. What is the focus of iDj Entertainment Services?
Our focus is to provide talented DJ’s who know people, music and energy. We use our knowledge of each to create a desired effect.

What is the purpose of having two divisions rather than advertise as an all-inclusive DJ Service?
We’re simply splitting all events that a DJ can be requested to perform in into two categories: formal and informal. We promote our company’s duality in an effort to eliminate subcategories of DJ titles with limiting connotations i.e. “Party DJ, Wedding DJ, Club DJ Corporate DJ”. Conversely, we promote our DJ’s as being universally capable in any forum where music and people are involved.


Rates & Packages

What are your rates?
Every event is charged on an individual basis. We do not post our rates, however you can get a quote today by filling out an event inquiry on our home page.

How do you charge, flat rate or by the hour?
Events with a specified end time are assigned a flat rate. Open-ended events are assigned and hourly rate with the possibility of overtime fees.

Do you offer packages?
Yes, all of our Elegance & Party Rock Division packages come with DJ/MC and basic dance floor lighting x4 hours. If there are additional services that you require let us know and we’ll tailor a package designed specifically for you.

Will I be charged for time spent during set-up or breakdown?
No, you are only charged for the hours between the agreed start and end times.


Services

What services does your company provide?
We provide DJ & MC services, sound systems, effect lighting, equipment rental, DJ instruction, weekly bar/lounge-DJ installations as well as other miscellaneous event services.

What kind of lighting do you offer?
Basic Party Lighting (multi-colored, high energy, moves to beat of music)
Ambient Effect Lighting (white, slow-rotating, elegant) Intelligent Lighting (multi-colored, panning beams, high-end club type)
LED Up-Lighting (10-20 stationary fixtures, transform color scheme of the area)
GOBO / Monogram lighting (projects couples names, logo or message onto wall or dance-floor)

Where are you based and what areas do you primarily service?
We are based in the Melrose/Fairfax district of Los Angeles and we primarily service the Greater Los Angeles, Orange County, Inland Empire & San Bernardino areas.

Do you travel to provide services? If so, where?
Yes, we have provided our services in San Diego, Santa Barbara, Catalina, Palm Springs, Las Vegas and Hawaiian islands however services outside our primary coverage area will include travel costs.

Do you offer bilingual MC’s?
Yes in most cases. Please inquire about your requested language.

Are your DJ’s also MC’s?
Yes, our DJ’s are cross-trained as both DJ’s and MC’s. During our consultation we’ll establish the amount of mic work that you may need and then assign you the most qualified DJ/MC.


General Informational

Do you have any references from previous clients?

What is needed to book iDj for my event?
All that is needed to secure your date is a signed client agreement and a security deposit. Your security deposit will be half of the total sum of the agreement due at signing, with the balance to be paid-in-full one week prior to your event date.

Can we meet with you prior to booking?
Yes! An in-person consultation is actually mandatory for all of Elegance Division events. We know that an in-person meeting isn’t always possible so we also offer on-line video chatting as an alternative.

Are your event services insured?
Yes, all iDj events are covered by two million dollars in comprehensive liability insurance. If your venue requires their vendors to carry liability insurance, we’ll be happy to forward our proof of insurance to all requesting parties.

Do you work alone or with assistants?
Your event will be assigned the appropriate amount of iDj representatives based on your requested services, equipment, and day-of event logistics.

How will your DJ be dressed for my event?
Our attire will be based on the formality of your event and will be determined during our initial consultation. Generally speaking, formal events are assigned suit/ tie, where informal events are club casual.

How long prior to my event will your DJ’s be arriving?
We will arrive between 1-3 hours prior to your event. We base this window upon on the amount of services requested and the estimated time of set-up.

What kind of equipment does iDj Entertainment Services use?
We use Rane mixers, Technics turntables, Pioneer CD players, Shure Microphones, QSC/ Mackie Speakers, Macintosh Computers and Elation/ American DJ Lighting to name a few. All of our equipment meets or exceeds industry-standards of performance.

Can we come watch your DJ’s perform live at an event?
Yes as long as the event is open to the public. If you want to preview iDj, we give you multiple forms of media in which to do so i.e. music mix samples, videos, reviews. Check us out!


Music

How do you your DJ’s select music for an event?
We consult with our clients prior to an event and find out the types of music that will appeal to the majority of their guests. We find out the “must not play list” and then gather music that will support their selections.

How do your DJ’s keep people on the dance floor?
Our DJ’s are excellent at reading people and applying the music that will draw out maximum dance floor energy. We’re experienced enough to notice the slightest deviation in body language or crowd reaction so in the event that a certain song or genre isn’t striking a chord on the dance-floor, we change the music/tempo/energy until we have you back where we want you.

Do you take song requests?
Yes, as long as the request is appropriate and isn’t going to deviate from our client’s pre-established playlist. We have extensive music collections but in the event that we don’t have your song, we carry wireless internet and we’ll download your song right there on the spot.

Do you carry clean versions of songs?
Yes. All music selected for Elegance Division events and school-age parties will be appropriate in regards to lyrics and content.

Can you recommend music for my event?
Absolutely, we make a living off of selecting music. We’d be happy to help you select music for your event

What if I don’t want Rap, Techno, Country or (genre that you hate) played at my event?
Simply spoken, it will not be played. However, be careful with absolute generalizations of music. It’s our experience that people don’t know how to correctly pair artists or songs with their respective genres. Did you know the song "I Got A Feeling" by the Black Eyed Peas is a "Top 40" dance song from "Hip Hop" artists who "Rap" over an "Electro" beat?


Weddings

Why should I pick a DJ over a band for my wedding?
Our DJ’s aren’t nearly as expensive as bands, we don’t take breaks, we have a wider selection of music, we require less time for set-up and accountability is limited to one person.

Can you recommend other wedding service providers?
Yes, we’ve established relationships with a network of very competent event services providers i.e. bartenders, caterers, photographers, videographers, photo booths, etc. We’re more than happy to refer you to other high-caliber event providers.

Do your DJ’s offer to play games with guests at weddings?
We do but it’s based on individual client request and must be pre-planned with adequate notice and preparation. At iDj, we don’t rely on games or gambits to inspire fun and enthusiasm from your guests, we do so with great music, energy and momentum.

Do your DJ’s play The Macarena, Chicken Dance, Achy Breaky Heart, Limbo or Conga Line?
No.


Miscellaneous

I got quoted a really low price for DJ services -or- My friend/cousin/ uncle is a DJ, should I hire them?
Yes, especially if you’re NOT concerned with outcome of your event. On the other hand, if you DO care about the quality of entertainment at your event, spend the money on a quality product... Us!

We’re on a budget and we were thinking of using an iPod, what do you think?
Ok, just know that you will need to rent speakers, an amp, a microphone, all cables and a mixing board that's going to run you $200- $600 not including the $2000 security hold on your credit card. You will have to designate someone to set-up & breakdown equipment, select a playlist that makes sense, keep tabs on schedule, make announcements, quickly change music so there’s no gaps of silence and he or she must be impervious to embarrassment. Please be sure to videotape your event and send me the youtube link so I could forward it to Tosh.0

If we provide you with food and beverages, can we get a discount?
No. We’re happy to accept food or drinks at your event but it will in no way affect your service charge. FYI - Event venues offer vendor meals for a nominal fee as an alternative to purchasing additional guest entree plates.

Is it customary to tip the DJ?
Yes but only if he or she does a good job. If you would like to show your appreciation for the quality of our services then in place of gratuity, we would be honored if you wrote us a review or recommended us for any future events.
