DJ Is

Introduction: DJ Is started DJing in 1994. He has had gigs in all types of clubs, bars and private parties from South Beach Miami to New York City. Venues included are Society Hill, KGB, Cream, Zanzibar, Cameo, Liquids, All Star Cafe, The Bee Hive, and many more. Since moving to the Los Angeles area, he has also worked Los Globos, Le Blanc bar and grill, Barragan's, and Broadway Bar. He has been on two radio stations in Miami (96.9 and 96.1 pirate radio). DJ Is incorporates many styles, ranging from new wave, hip-hop, electro, breaks beats, disco, reggae, and much more. Influenced at a young age by music from 2 Live Crew, Miami Sound Machine, Timmy T, Madonna, David Bowie, Billy Idol, and all those catchy '80s tunes you know and love, he then grew to discover hip-hop, which in turn inspired him to become a DJ. He started Christmas of 1994, 17 years old, with a gift from his mother that was a blessing (two turntables and a microphone). Growing up in the '80s in South Miami Beach, Florida, having nothing but a passion for the ocean and music, he learned his place in life was to be a musician, and much like the ocean, his musical style flows from tranquility to ferocity with beauty. DJ Is makes you feel the rhythm and emotion of the music with the fluidity at which he mixes from one genre to the next. Implementing turntablism techniques inspired from DJs like Jam Master J, mix master Mike, DJ Craze, DJ Shiftee, DJ Shadow, and many others, he casts a spell over the audience that is unique and "headnodic."
