What do you wish customers knew about you or your profession?
Mostly I'm not really training their dog, rather I'm teaching my client how to respond to their dog in a way that makes sense to them, in a dog way sort of. Once my client learns how to and how not to respond, the whole dynamic changes for the better and quickly!
What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
Look for the type of dog training first and foremost. Some people search for a dog trainer by price first, then type, then time, etc. When they compare services, they end up comparing apples and oranges.
For instance, a clicker treat-based dog trainer usually charges by the visit. Bark Busters charges a flat fee, which guarantees as many visits as needed to meet the clients goals. It's a huge difference.
What are your most common types of jobs?
Most of my clients have dogs that are driving them crazy. But not all my clients have this problem. Common dog behavior issues I work with everyday are:
- Barking
- Jumping up
- Peeing/pooping in the house
- Front door manners
- Pulling on the leash
- Doesn't come sit or stay
- Too excited
- Chewing furniture
- Digging up the backyard
I can usually solve these issues in a very short time with my clients. Funny how most people wonder why they waited so long to call me.
