Haven't you or your child always wanted to learn how to play the drums?
With over 15 years of experience (including national and international touring, studio sessions, lessons with ages 8 and up, live network television appearances, drum teching for stage and studio and records on labels like Virgin, Dischord and Saddle Creek), drummer Andrew Black is available for private lessons.
Choose what works best for you — you can either be at my location in 90034 or I can come to you to work on your kit. Whether you want to improve stick control, work on your timing, explore new fills or just learn how to play your favorite songs, I design lessons around what works best for your personal needs and goals. I'm great for new and intermediate students. I offer "school of rock" training and attention without the expensive bill.
My references are available upon request.
Please call me for rates and scheduling.
A. A good drum teacher should be patient, thorough, responsive, and engaged. Make sure your teacher is giving you what you WANT to learn.
A. In addition to being technically proficient, I was raised by the music of dc so in my playing one can hear a spectrum of different feels from high energy hardcore and punk tempos to the slow pocket of dc's indigenious groove music, go go.
A. I love seeing new students capture the physical ability of producing percussive sounds. Seeing students respond to a new ideas and then master them is very rewarding to me.
A. Do you make house calls? YES! Within 40 miles of 90034, a fuel surcharge of $15 is added to the rate of $45 for the hour to make the lesson $60 for the hour-much more economic than driving around in rush hour and cheaper than the music schools. Let the school of rock come to you.
A. Teaching came very naturally after years of playing live. I started playing as a teen, i kept practicing, started bands, played in the drumline, and took it very seriously. I did my first US tour when I was 19 and my first European tour when I was 20. It was around then that I started realizing that I wanted to build a life around my passion for drums.
A. Last November, I tracked an entire album, 12 songs, in just one studio work day (my personal best in the studio!) while tracking at The Bastille at Inner Ear Studios for the upcoming album "In Blank" by Washington DC's Title Tracks http://www.myspace.com/titletracksdc
