Question and answer
Q. Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.
A. The most common type of work I get is from non-profits. But, at times I get some work for corporate and small business.
Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A. Trust the professional. The professional has years of experience understanding buyer/product relationship. At the same time, make sure you give the service provider a clear understanding and framework as to what needs to be accomplished. These two things are the biggest advice I can give to a customer.
Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?
A. I think the pricing process is a mystery to most customers. And unfortunately when the service provider breaks it down, it's still not understood. I think customers should speak up when they aren't sure about something and the service provider needs to be explicit. If the customer is still not understanding something, it's on them.
Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?
A. I think too often customers don't ask the right questions and I don't think it's the service providers job to tell them what to ask. But, I think the basic questions are the right questions. What are your skills? Do you have experience with x, y & z. Or do you have an understanding of x, y & z? What are your pricing options? How long will the project take? What info can I provide you? Do you have a kill fee? What are your working preferences, on-site or remote?
Q. What do you like most about your job?
A. The freedom, the thought process, and the creativity are probably what I like most about what I do. While every designer has his or her own gripes when it comes to what we do, at the end of a busy day I can sit back and honestly say I really like what I do – creating, thinking, problem solving… making everything simply look and feel better.
