Question and answer

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Before you meet with a potential therapist, take a few minutes to talk to the therapist on the phone. If they do not have time for you, then pass they are not for you. Make sure you have a comfort level in speaking to them on the phone, and in your opinion do they have what you need to help you in your life.

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. I think it is really important to know how long they have been working as a therapist, and it is critical they have a positive attitude, as well as 100% confidence they can help you with your problem. If they cannot convey to you confidence in what they do, then you will not trust them enough to make it work.

Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?

A. Whatever you are having issues with, should be briefly explained to the therapist, and don't be shy about what your needs are. The therapist should be able to give you an idea of what it is they do for your particular situation, and they should not have to think about it for more than a few seconds. If a therapist is an expert in a particular field, they will be able to give an overview of what they will be working on with you in your sessions.

Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?

A. You need to either know what it is you want to get out of therapy or what it is you are missing in your life. You also need to be willing to make some changes in how you do things, and certainly it is critical for you to be willing to talk to someone about your issues.
