Question and answer

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. First, you want to find a healer and massage therapist with a strong foundation. This would include very thorough training of at least 1 year minimum in anatomy, physiology, muscle therapy, psychology, and energy healing techniques, preferably a few years of experience, and it helps to read some honest testimonials. Second, have a consultation and pay attention to how your guts feel while speaking with the person. Are they really listening to you? Do they seem to genuinely care? Do they treat you with respect? Are they knowledgable about their craft and can they explain it to you in terms you can easily understand? Only book an appointment if you get a good feeling from those you consult with.

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. I wish I knew just how effective, deep, and real the change for the better for me could be. One of the inside secrets is that while everyone has the ability to bring healing to each other, to do it professionally with consistent results takes years of training and practice. You want real tangible results and of course you want change fast. Sudden spontaneous healing often occurs after one session. Also, healing can happen incrementally as there can be some deep seated issues and injury to take care of and your system can't handle such profound change all at once! So, another secret is that you have to be able to assimilate change in your system at a rate that doesn't re-traumatize you - that is why some healing takes more time. After 8 years of training (although the learning never ends :~) and 18 years of practice I can tell you that I have seen profound change for the better in the health and lives of my clients. Body's have recovered from serious illness and injuries, relationships have changed from horrible to happy, and depression has lifted. Your healer should be able to balance technical understanding of your issues with a compassionate open heart while showing insight and wisdom. These are essential qualities in any healer. A good healer or massage therapist will always treat you with respect, never use fear tactics or coercion, and even simply speaking with them will bring you a sense of relief and hope.

Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?

A. Ask where they were trained and for how long. Their answer should be impressive. Share your specific needs for seeking their service and ask how they might go about helping you. Ask if they have experience with healing your specific issue. No healer can say how long something will take to heal, so if they make outrageous claims, move on. If it is massage you are talking about, a ballpark estimate of healing time should be given, with an outline of the what the massage sessions will entail. Also, the massage therapist should be able to give you a healing plan that you follow at home to speed relief and promote healing. If the practitioner ever gets defensive while answering your questions, move along. You want a healer that is knowledgable and patient and who shows you the respect you deserve.
