FAQs
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Painfully Hip was started by designer/writer/stylist Amber Mortensen in February 2007 as a fashion blog. Since then, her styling, photography and writing have been featured by BUST Magazine, Elle.com, Vogue.com, Chicago Tribune, and the Arizona Daily Star, Lucky Magazine, Velour Magazine UK, Urban Outfitters.com, Buffalo Exchange.com, and national print ads for Crossroads Trading Company. Her costumes, interiors and locations have been featured in commercials and print ads for Apple, AT&T, Verizon, Sony, Levi's, Amazon, Wayfair, Microsoft, Amazon and Ubisoft.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I started writing about vintage fashion and the human condition in 2007 as a cure for at-work boredom at a receptionist job. It quickly became an overwhelming success. Since relocating to Los Angeles and expanding to interiors, Painfully Hip's focus has evolved into a microcosm of lifestyle design. We specialize in unpretentious, authentic, organic modern interior design, original graphics and copywriting, production location services, staging, event photography, and wardrobe design for special events like everyday.
- Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
I really enjoyed designing the interior for a 3500 sq ft brick industrial loft with an open floor plan in downtown Los Angeles 2 years ago. It was a blank canvas and a challenge I enjoyed immensely. It was soon featured on the interior design blog Apartment Therapy.
