I have known Chrystal for many years and I have watched her as a photographer grow and in turn she has helped me to grow as a model. Over the years, she has been able to express exactly what she has wanted to portray in her photos while helping me to be able to portray exactly what she wanted. She can take on extreme circumstances and make them beautiful. I have shot with her in the snow and in the rain, not the best of weather conditions and the photos have turned out beautifully. I don't think that there is any challenge that I have not watched her accomplish. She is fun to work with and makes sure that you feel comfortable in your own skin and be able to trust her instincts as a photographer.

My family had a wonderful experience working with Chrystal. She scouted locations to make sure we got the shots we were hoping for. She was patient and really got to know what we wanted, and she did not rush the process. I would not hesitate to recommend her to anyone, we will treasure the photographs forever!

I had a blast working as a model for Chrystal Hohmann. She is extremely personable, yet knows how to give direction to capture the best shot. I feel lucky to have had the opportunity since she has moved away from MIchigan now!

Hello my name is Jessica. Ill start from the beginning. I first described the job I needed was maternity pictures to forever cherish and hold close in my heart, for I am a FTM (first time mom). I also mentioned that I had very bad money problems and just found out I was on my way to being a single parent. When I was first contacted by Chrystal through email, I explained to her that I never had my picture taken by anyone professional and didn't know how things were to be done in such a matter. So she insisted we meet first at a cute lil coffee shop just to get acquainted with each other. So we did. And I enjoyed her presence very much and I think we were both happy with each others company. She never came off shy and she described the ends and outs to me with no problems what so ever. So we shook hands and settled for the next Sunday at Eaton Canyon Nature Center for a wonderful price. You can imagine my happiness when I was reassured that-that was indeed her asking price. I had other offerings for the job, but we're all asking for $100. One lady asked for $50. But Chrystal said to me, that she understood how sometimes a person can have money concerns at a moment and she wanted to help me find the happiness that I was searching for at this most special time at every women's life. That made me feel really good inside that she wanted to help me achieve that and how she understood what it's like to be sometimes broke ! When the day came for us to shoot, it was a beautiful day. Of course she was on time. Me on the other hand, I think I was about 30-40 minutes late. I apologized for that and she didn't even seem angry at that. So that made me feel like not only was she a nice person but she also had patience and wasn't going to hold that against me the whole hour we were to be there shooting. That too made me feel good inside and impressed me about her kind nature and quality of work. She did have to school me about how to properly poses. Since the only poses I did were weekly selfies of myself and of my growing belly in my bathroom for the past 35 weeks. Within the hour long shoot we probably stopped at 11 different sites to snap some pictures. And all in all nothing went wrong (except my tardiness). I never looked at the pictures we took but deep down I know they would be beautiful and I'll be extremely happy when I receive them. As too, we joked and laughed a lot during the time. That made it all the more pleasant and comfortable for me. Already as it is, after the shoot I paid her for the asking price but also tipped her what I had extra. I also mentioned to her that when my baby is born I would like to take photos again of the two of us or maybe just the baby (gender is unknown, I believe it's a boy though). So that is how much I enjoyed and had a great time working with her, that I would like to use her expertise again when the baby is here. So thank you Chrystal for helping me capture this moment and creating that friendship with me that will cause us to reunite again soon when he's here. I would recommend her to anyone and everyone whom asks about knowing any good photographers. Also, thank you to Thumbtack for letting it be possible for us to have met each other :)

FAQs

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

Absolutely! I use Phlearn.com to keep up to date the latest Photoshop techniques.

  • What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

The photography session may only last an hour, but there is a lot of pre and post production work involved in the creative process. Pre-production work includes researching the type of shoot I'm commissioned to do by preparing a list of poses, as well as location scouting before the shoot to get a feel of the environment we will be in. Post production includes many hours of organizing, editing, and uploading your photos.
