Introduction: With more than a decade of experience teaching privately and in the classroom, as well as a rich background in education research, I have a unique, insightful approach to bring out the best in my students. At the core of my strategy as a teacher, I form a partnership with my students in which I provide the structure and feedback needed to accomplish their musical goals. For young students, this involves nurturing the development of musical talent and exposing them to new musical experiences; for older students, this involves rediscovering latent talent and developing a pathway toward success in creating the music they wish. I hold a PhD in music from UCLA, as well as a master's degree from San Francisco Conservatory and BFA from Carnegie Mellon University. Studio I teach from my home studio in the Koreatown area of Los Angeles. It is equiped with a baby grand piano, electronic resources, and a comfortable area to wait should parents wish to stay during the duration of a child's lesson. In some cases, I can teach in a student's home as well, particularly on the west side.

FAQs

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

In hiring a music teacher, for either private lessons or classroom teaching, it is important to look at a teacher both as a professional musician and educator. Every musician will teach at some point in his or her life - it's part of the "circle" of learning and sharing we all participate in. Some teachers are more oriented toward performing, others toward teaching and maintaining a studio; there is a full spectrum. The more time you invest in finding a teacher who is professionally trained and offers a comprehensive lesson plan for you or your child as a teacher, the better your results will be.
