FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I will charge less if a student comes to my house. I will charge less if the lesson is for more than 1 hour, or for multiple students, for example 2 hours for 2 siblings. I will not teach lessons for less than 1 hour. I only teach weekly lessons, meaning I will not accept students wanting a lesson every other week or less.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I see where they are at with their piano skills and music theory knowledge by having them show me whatever they can do or have done by way of a series of questions, playing for me, or showing me previous scores or workbooks. Then I will assign a few pieces and scales. I will over a few lessons develop a curriculum appropriate for their skill level and goals. I teach theory through some supplemental theory books, but mainly through the music they play.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Bachelors and Masters degree in Piano Performance from San Francisco State University and a 2nd Masters degree in Performer-Composer from CalArts. I have taught private piano lessons since 2002. I am currently an instructor of 2nd and 3rd semester level ear-training and musicianship skills courses for undergraduate music majors at CalArts. I have also taught basic music to non-music majors and music theory to undergraduate music majors.
