Introduction: I give my students a strong technical and musical foundation, but I also make sure they are having fun. I often receive transfer students who have poor technique, reading skills, knowledge of music, and I help shape them into competent musicians while still making it a fun experience. I love music! And I love sharing music with others, especially children and adolescents. Children are imaginative, and I love being creative with them about what we see or hear in the music. Children also learn instinctively by imitation, and I love teaching them kinesthetically. I love serving as a teacher, mentor, and guide to pre-college students as they develop as people. It is exciting when they decide to pursue music as a career, but equally exciting to simply walk with them on this journey.

Kathryn was both of my daughters' first piano teacher. I was impressed by how she managed to be professional yet personal to young kids. She made learning piano fun with stickers as rewards, positive praise, specific ways to practice and improve. She also noticed how my girls learned differently and adjusted her teaching techniques towards their learning strengths. I appreciated that Kathryn taught them classical music and not just pop piano or contemporary music. I also appreciated how she encouraged students to perform in her recitals or signed them up for festivals, and also encouraged participation in the Certificate of Merit program. Combined, these gave my kids attainable goals as they learned piano. One of the best parts I loved was the little theory classes she held for different groups of students. Surprisingly, my children and the other children and parents loved these little classes. She created games and incentives for kids to learn theory and it allowed other students to work together in their musical growth. In all these ways Kathryn instilled in my girls the beginnings of a growing love for piano and music. We changed piano teachers only because she moved. If we were still in the same city I have no doubt that she would still be my girls' teacher.

As a former student, I can say I loved having her as my piano teacher. She is positive, not strict, but she fixes all the student's problems and makes it sound wonderful! She stays on top of things and makes sure the student practices well for the lessons. She finds the student's pace very quickly and, using the student's music preferences, helps with piece choices. She is very kind and easy for the student to work with. I miss her very much since she moved to LA. As the parent: I recall Kathryn as kind, very professional, well prepared for the lessons, and also nurturing the knowledge of theory and the history of classical music. She cares about each and every one of her pupils.

Ms. Kathryn was my children's first piano teacher. She really inspired them. Not only she made learning piano fun, she also placed great emphasis on correct posture and technique at beginning which laid strong foundation for my children. Because of her, my children are very into music now. It was very sad that she had to move away. We all missed her very much !! Strongly recommend her. She's a great teacher !!!

We have had a lot of piano teachers and Kathryn is by far the best. She's great at getting the kids interested and amazing at keeping up their enthusiasm. Definitely recommend her.
