- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am constantly taking workshops to enhance my teaching skills. I feel it's so important as an instructor to become a student so that you can relate to your students. I also believe that you have to practice what you preach. I regularly work with my mentor on my body, mind, and spirit. Pilates is such an awakening experience for me that I try to be a part of it as much as I can. For example, in October of 2013, I plan on attending a 5 day intensive workshop in Fletcher Pilates towel work, floor work, and barre. And... Next year (2014) I hope to begin my training in Gyrotonic/Gyrokenesis!
- What types of customers have you worked with?
I spend time with each client discussing goals and specific issues/injuries. I will provide you with a postural assessment and design a program that specifically addresses your goals and or issues/injuries. I will introduce you to the principles of Pilates and the proper way to engage your body during the work. Be prepared to be challenged and have fun as I provides you with exercises to further assess your fitness level.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Make sure that the Pilates instructor is fully certified from a 450+ hour program. It also helps if they are a PMA Certified Pilates Teacher. PMA certification ensures that they are legit. It is also helpful if the Pilates instructor regularly earns CECs (Continuing Education Credits) by attending workshops or certification programs.
