Hired on Thumbtack

Hired on Thumbtack

I found Rj on Thumbtack when he replied to fixing a bathroom leak for me. He was not available at the time so I hired another plumber. He said he was also a contractor and could fix two broken tiles I had in the kitchen and any other fix it needs I had. He said he charged $100 by the hour and gave me a decent rate so I hired him. Before hiring him I got two quotes to fix the tile at $150 and $200 taking aprox 2 hours to complete due to cuts to the tile that was required. Although RJ arrived on time he worked very slow and took about 30 minutes just to set up. He was also very unprofessional sending me texts with inappropriate smiley faces blowing kisses. Not only was he slow and unprofessional, he also broke one of my replacement tiles that took me two years to find, and he had the gall to actually cement it in. I told him it was unacceptable, gave him another tile that did not match perfectly just to have something in until I found another match, which conveniently only took him a half an hour to cut and install. The finished work was sloppy and uneven in addition to me having to rehire another person to fix his work. In the end, RJ charged me 2 hours just to remove the tile coming back the following week to finish, charging me a additional 6 hours to install the two tiles which I still have to replace one and fix. In all fairness he did also replace my sink faucet stems which dripped but that only took a half and hour the most to do, and the parts which I paid in addition to him for, I found for $20 each at a local hardware store after the fact, which he said was not available. I refused to pay him for what he was asking for due to the circumstances so he did take some off but I was still grossly overcharged for work that was poorly done and not even finished. As a single woman I unfortunately learned some valuable lessons with hiring him. He is either a very poor contractor or is just a man that was trying to take advantage of a single woman. Either way I would not recommend him to anyone.
