I am a tile setter with 25 years of experience in basic to custom tile installation, maintenance & repairs.
I was a bricklayer before I worked for an Old World craftsman who took me under his wing & taught me to set tile on a base of cement using tar paper, wire mesh, followed by a rough coat of cement & finished with a smooth float coat to where tile is applied evenly.
I began by learning to clean & regrout, replacing broken tiles, then moved on to hot mop shower pan repairs before doing complete shower stalls & tub surrounds. Showers are my specialty & I prefer to construct them on a base of cement rather than cement boards. I also tile counter tops, back & stove splashes, floors, walls, entries, pools & patios.
Most recently, I was inspired by a group of women to help conduct work shops in the creation of Butterfly Mosaics for a community park project "Dreaming of Mosaic Mariposas in El Monte".
I have been called an artist by many but rather be labeled a bricklayer/tile setter. I began by installing 4"x4" glazed tile & have learned to install terra cotta, porcelain, glass tile, slate, tumble stone, travertine, granite, quarry, saltillo & limestone in dimensions from 2" to 20" tiles.
I can tile on just about any surface & always look forward to new learning experiences & challenges.
I am currently working on a Mosaic Butterfly mural & will soon create a sea scape.
