Introduction: I am unique in that my perspective encompasses both the micro and macro worlds of a language. I care equally about both worlds and they are equally important for communication. After years of teaching Spanish in different settings including institutions and privately, I have created my own practical curriculum that focuses on the verb. The verb in Spanish tells so much information and it is the most important communicative element in Spanish. Around this element circle all the others that are important for effective communication: pronunciation, expressive grammar, geography, history, culture, spontaneity and creativity, and idioms - everything we carry automatically in our native language. This I apply directly to the student's life. I have a set skeleton that forms my curriculum, and from there I customize all the material according to the student's needs and interests, professional or personal. In all language work, the goal is communication; that is my overarching vision with every class. I have also learned 7 other languages (sadly I do not maintain them all), including 3 non-Western languages and 2 with non-Latin script. The experience of learning other languages fundamentally formed the way I decided to teach language. I love tutoring Spanish! I love being part of a student's process to learn to communicate with native speakers. I love when I finish a session and the student has spent 75% of the class speaking in spontaneous full sentences in Spanish - having started with nothing! Everyone learns differently so as a tutor I need to be creative to think of different ways of explaining concepts or giving examples. This is part of the joy of working with people - everyone has a different perspective on life. I also love watching my student's brain work, it is so exciting to teach language to someone! And I am passionate about teaching English-speakers Spanish. Learning another language opens your entire worldview. Culture is not just food, clothes and music; it encompasses a set of values, a specific history and a way of perceiving the world, and it is embedded in language. I love sharing language with others.

I have known Leah Vincent for many years, and have a great respect for her dedication, passion and commitment to teaching, editing, learning and sharing. She has worked with me as editor and proofreader on a number of cover letters, resumes, and academic papers. I found her attention to detail and knowledge of English grammar to be a great help in bettering my writing. I was also impressed by her ability to see the outcome of a thought, concept, or paragraph well before I could, and to offer suggestions that helped me create a well thought out, and well written piece of work. I have no doubt that Leah will continue to provide outstanding services, and I cannot recommend her enough.

I have used Skype to take a Spanish class with Leah for few years. Since I do not have a regular work schedule, it is very difficult for me to go to the on site class. Using Skype for Spanish lessons with Leah is a perfect fit for my work schedule. The flexible schedule using Skype has allowed me to continue leaning Spanish. Additionally, I have been able to continue learning Spanish because Leah is a great teacher. She is very patient. Her lesson is very organized and fun. I am a medical professional and Leah is a medical translator and interpreter. She is familiar with many medical terminologies, which allows me to practice and improve my medical Spanish. She also uses various materials such as poems, songs, and videos that help me deepen my understanding about Latino culture. Thank you Leah for being such a great teacher!

As Leah's colleague in the Spanish department at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, I witnessed her dedication and passion to teaching Spanish. In addition to being highly fluent, she was always open and available to help her students, forming excellent relationships with them. She also worked in the Writing Center, where she was able to hone her tutoring skills. Leah is a great bet as a tutuor!

Leah is an excellent teacher in every aspect, and I would recommend her to anyone who is excited about learning not only the Spanish language but also the culture. When I started with her, my Spanish was terrible because I had never taken any formal classes. She has been extremely patient with me and providing me with practical materials that would help me build foundation skills and learn pronunciation as well as grammar. Her structured classes are interesting and creative. I am certain that I have been making steady progress and that I will keep going because of her extensive knowledge, positive attitude, and encouragement.
