Introduction: Hello! Thank you for checking me out! I am SO excited to see that you are taking steps to create a hobby for yourself that can last a life time. 🎵🎵 I am not your ordinary violin teacher. Imagine learning violin in a manner the violin is comfortable and, regardless your ability (beginner or intermediate), you have skills inside your first year which no other teacher mentioned before. Skills that help you accelerate your learning after a period of time honing them in. That is what you get with me: My students enjoy an easier learning experience where I teach via body balance and find each students unique organic approach to violin. (since no two students have the same build, no two can play exactly the same). Because I teach in such an organic way that emphasizes body balance, I have had teachers send me their students to overcome obstacles or prepare for competitions. Plus, in my studio, beginners have a warmer tone in a far shorter period of time and NONE of my students have to experience the pain many students experience when playing the violin. You might be asking, “How is all that possible?” Because I am the ONLY teacher in California, (or anywhere that I have heard of) who has a specific step-by-step approach to teaching how to play the violin pain free and from a very organic muscle memory approach. It’s a specific approach to teaching I studied in depth while living in England. I was learning it for myself, but began applying it to my students with success every time. As a result of how I teach, I am an international teacher with several students who study with me via FaceTime from England, Australia, New Mexico, Utah and Colorado. I have also coached actors for the big screen, including Patricia Arquette. Quick story: I sat on an airplane last spring and it turns out that I was sitting next to a violin enthusiast who was about 50. We began "talking shop" and he shared, "I have played the violin for THREE YEARS and I can't play with a straight bow. How do you do that?" I signed him up for ten lessons, and by the time he was done with the set, he was playing with a straight bow. We had to do it online since he lives in Boston and I live in Los Angeles. So when I say that I have a SYSTEM, a step by step system that gives you skills in an effortless manner, I mean it. All you have to do is show up, trust the process, have patience with yourself. My youngest student is 7. My oldest student is 92! I began playing the violin at the age of 2. Moral of that "age-range" story: No one is too young or too old to learn the violin. A brief bit about myself: I have played the violin since the age of 2, so am bringing to the table over 50 years of hard won experience in both performance and teaching. My dad had me performing by the age of 3, and I have been on stage since. Growing up, I traveled as a soloist internationally almost every summer, and spent summers immersed in music camps under some of the biggest names in the industry. Also growing up, my dad was friends with some of the major violinists in the field like Perlman and Stern. They would come over to our house when my dad would make their violin cases (Weber Violin Cases) and teach me a thing or two while they waited for their case. Perlman influenced my bow arm greatly when we sat in our family living room and he taught me his "figure eight" approach to a fluid sound. I use it all the time and teach it all the time to this day. Because of my extensive experience, my education as in Performing Arts at USC where I got a full scholarship, I am far from the average teacher who just throws music at you and says, “practice that” and pushes students through massive amounts of music in their first three years. My method (and passion) goes way beyond that. I first focus on the foundation of HOW TO play the violin before we even get to music. Not every violinist has a natural gift for teaching. I am fortunate enough to always be able to break it down for a student to really unlock what each student needs in order for them to understand and progress in a relaxed manner. I bring everything I have learned from teachers all over the world (plus take my stage experience) and give my all to each student, whether beginner or advance, young, middle aged or senior status. My current students age ranges from 7-92. I teach world wide so teach both locally and online. My stage and concert experience is extensive: Throughout my teens and 20’s, I spent the summers traveling as either concert master or soloist with orchestras across Europe. Eventually I settled down in Los Angeles where I now freelance and teach. I am currently Concert Master for Johnny Mathis when he is in Southern California, I performed regularly the Lady Gaga and Tony Bennet show in LA, and perform with many other celebrities. Every three years I travel to Japan for concerts. My current Orchestra’s include Pacific Symphony, Long Beach Symphony, Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, other surrounding orchestras as well as studio work for motion pictures. The secondary reason I do this is to make sure I am talking to who I am typing with. It makes it safer for both of us. Since I do teach out of my home, I screen who comes into it. Oh ya, one last thing: How To Pronounce My Name. People are usually embarrassed to ask, the get more embarrassed because they didn't guess right. So I am quite happy to save you the trouble: The "Y" in my name (Dynell) is pronounced like the "Y" in "Lynn". Or think of the word "dinner". It is pronounced like the "I" in "dinner. Then the emphasis is on the "Nell". When pronounced correctly, it almost sounds french. But it isn't. My parents made it up as a compromise name when my mom was in labor. The spelling comes from two different people they wanted me named after. I am a compromise baby, but have gone my whole life explaining that "Y". :-)!!!!
