Bring your 0 to 5-year old to our weekly music classes in the Valley and Marina communities, where your children will learn music through parental/caregiver modeling and immersive play with instruments and props, chants and fingerplays, dance, improvisation, and jam sessions in a supportive, community environment! Music learning supports all learning, and is a great way to bond with your child.

Valley Cat teachers bring various instruments, a sense of humor, and many years of experience with children, singing, performing, Eastern European folk music (talk to Deborah about that!), and teaching to each ten-week session. We are available for birthday parties, too!

Question and answer

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. If you're looking for music classes for your child, make sure to ask about the age range of your class. Music Together classes are for children birth through 5, all in class together, so whole families can attend, and all caregivers are welcome. The mixed-age format allows for a natural interaction among children who may be more or less advanced than their peers. Younger children learn by watching not only their parents but also the older kids, and the older kids are excited to become leaders for the younger children.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. I love to see the moment when a baby makes the connection between that egg shaker and the music she is hearing and, instead of putting in her mouth (which is developmentally appropriate and perfectly fine), she shakes it! The parents of children making these first musical steps get so excited, it just makes my day. Same with the child who is quiet week after week and then finally opens his mouth and sings back the tonal patterns perfectly. The "a-ha!" moments are the best. Aside from that, I just love making music with kids and with their grownups! (We have a lot of fun.)
