Introduction
My passion as a teacher is to create a safe and nurturing space for beginners and experienced practitioners alike, regardless of experience, fitness level or age. In my classes, I encourage self-study and invite each student to sink into their practice, cultivating a deeper connection to body, mind and spirit. I end each class with an extended guided relaxation, a powerful anti-stress tonic that is more effective than a nap and latte combined! If you are looking to boost morale, productivity and a sense of community in your workplace or establishment, a weekly class can encourage better health for each individual and your business. As a Kripalu-certified instructor, I have completed over 300 hours of training, specializing in special populations, yoga nidra-guided meditation, trauma recovery and restorative yoga. I also hold an MFA in drama, with a specialization in drama therapy. "Joan is a true teacher. She's intuitive, intelligent, warm, and insightful. She tailors every session to my specific needs, and even when I come in the door feeling cranky and stressed, I leave feeling centered and peaceful. I'm a happier person since I began practicing with her, and I'm so grateful to have found her." - Sarah Fain, Television Writer

FAQs

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Check references and verify certification. There are many yoga teachers that are self-proclaimed, who have not received proper training. Insurance is also a factor. Ensure your yoga teacher is insured and check what the liability is on your end. Work with a teacher that fits the needs of your establishment or business. The wrong yoga teacher can have the opposite of the intended effect, turning students off yoga, creating a competitive environment and pushing students to attempt postures that are dangerous. Bad teachers cause/exacerbate injuries.
