Betty has an innate ability to create design that is simple and straight-forward...and deliciously eye-pleasing. Her natural ability comes through with each project we've worked on. I'm a designer and a bit picky when it comes to project aesthetics and detail. I appreciate her ability to manage my point of view and her own skills to come up with timeless designs that get compliments from other picky designers! Thank you Betty!

I have really enjoyed working with Gott Design. Betty is professional, creative and hard working. Her designs have elevated my business so that my products and image stand out among my competitors. I would highly recommend this company.

I have worked with Betty over the last several years doing design work for our church. Betty has done banners, ads, and our website and always is quick and very professional. She is a pleasure to work with and extremely knowledgeable in her field.

Question and answer

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. The adage "you get what you pay for" is usually true. Anyone can hang out a shingle to design and not have training. Today's software allows poor design to look better but there's more to design than making something look pretty. Good design communicates a concept visually, using words only if necessary.

Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?

A. * What area of design do you consider to be your strongest?
* In what area do you have the most experience?
* What turn-around time can I expect for my project?

Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?

A. You should give the design professionals a budget to work with so they don't over- or under-design for your needs. Otherwise you will be disappointed, which of course will disappoint the designer.

Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?

A. When I got my degree, I knew I never wanted to stop learning, but didn't necessarily want another degree. I became disenchanted after working in administration and management and decided to get training for my passion and turn it into a saleable skill -- graphic design and visual communication!

Q. Do you do any sort of continuing education to stay up on the latest developments in your field?

A. I am a member of National Association of Photoshop Professionals. I often attend the NAPP users meetings and other Photoshop or InDesign conferences, learning new Photoshop skills. I take classes in graphics and web at UCSC Extension; I subscribe to several industry magazines; purchase books and subscribe to online training.
