FAQs
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a proud member of WPPI: Wedding and Portrait Photographers International and PPoC: Professional Photographers of California. I invest in many hours of classes, workshops, self study and of course, trial and error. I believe learning something new every day keeps my work fresh and exciting for my clients and for me. I see an evolution in my work over the last few years and look forward to seeing what the next few years brings!
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
As a sophomore in high school, I was required to choose an art class. I was already in band, and dad was very much against jewelry making or pottery! So I registered for photography 1. I went into the class with a lot of trepidation. I had heard it was pretty hard--chemistry, art theory, etc., etc....During the second week, we made a pinhole camera out of a Quaker Oatmeal tub, sprayed the inside black, cut a flap out on one side and filled it in with tinfoil. We pricked a hole in the tin. I couldn't believe I was in kinder art, or what seemed like the equivalent. Long story longer: I attached the photo paper to the other end of the tub, went outside and opened the flap. I waited the prescribed twenty minutes, closed the flap and went into the darkroom. When I put the paper in the developer and watched the image appear, it was like the fumes woke up my soul. I had found my calling; it really was like magic...
- What types of customers have you worked with?
My business is women-centric photography, so obviously my sessions are female portraiture. That being said, my clients all come with different expectations and desires for their shoots. For example: Solopreneurs wanting to have excellent, flattering images on their websites and marketing collateral...brides wanting revealing albums to give to their grooms on their wedding day...wives wanting to surprise their husbands with glamorous images...An expectant mama comes in for soft, beautiful imagery of the magical time waiting for her new baby to arrive...mamas bringing in their brood for a portrait to document how their family has grown and changed...moms wanting to explore the sensual side of themselves...women celebrating menopause, divorce, 'narrow escapes' (left at the altar), weight loss, etc. Yes, women come in for all kinds of reasons. What they leave with is a sense of wholeness, beauty and positive energy to devote to themselves.
