Question and answer

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Ask as many questions as you would asking your child's teacher. Dog trainers come from various background. Not only it's important to find a competent trainer, it's also essential to find one who trains in the humane way.

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. Because the dog training industry is not regulated like most professions out there, it's in the customer's best interest to do his/her due diligence in finding out about the trainer as much as possible.

Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?

A. *What formal education have you had in training dogs?
*What kind of experience did you have?
*Tell me about your training method.
*What will your approach be if X is the problem?
*How long will the training take to fix X?
*How old does my dog need to be to start training?
*How old does my dog need to be to join the pack-walk?

Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?

A. The customers are committed to helping their dogs get the necessary training the dogs need. Certain behavior modification takes longer to change and certain basic commends and skills take longer to implement. It's important to keep in mind each dog is an individual and each individual learns differently and takes different amount of time to be successful. The customers will need to be able to see the training succeed 100% of the time and not think 80% is good enough and call it quit.

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. Before I start a training session, I take the dog out for a 30-min exercise. Dog and human are alike; neither can focus well and absorb what has learned with a lot of pent up energy.

Q. Do you do any sort of continuing education to stay up on the latest developments in your field?

A. I always participate in numerous seminars hosted by reputable organizations and industry leaders through out the year. Beside seminars, I am always looking to further my training abilities by participating in rigorous continue education.

Q. What are the latest developments in your field? Are there any exciting things coming in the next few years or decade that will change your line of business?

A. A lot of dogs are being sent to animal shelters because their families have young children and the parents don't know how to deal with dog-children situations. This is very sad and unfortunate and a very unnecessary step to take. There are organizations such as Dogs&Storks and Dog and Baby Connection specialize in helping families in situations like this.
