Sam and his team helped us navigate a complex permit back and forth with the city of San Jose. He was on top of all city requests and was able to get us the original permit and revisions. They also stuck to their original quote and provided structural engineering services after the fact. I would recommend them without reservations.

I didn't end up hiring Altus due to my project needs changing. However, due to Sam's high level of professionalism and fast response time, I felt it was appropriate to leave a review. I received a punctual call, and we discussed the project needs over the phone, for which he was willing to provide me an estimate (it was a simple/small project for drawings for repair only). I will definitely be reaching out in the future for the next time I need architect support.

We bought a house in East Bay last year and the previous owner started a full interior remodel without the required permits. After we bought the house we continued with the remodel for a couple of weeks before we were red tagged. The inspector gave us 10 days to undo the work and/or apply for permits. I was looking for an architect and Sam was referred to us by a friend of a friend. Sam answered our phone call and he came to the site within a couple of days and gave us a quote and a realistic timeframe for when he can get the plans ready. He immediately sent a note to the inspector asking for an extension as it was impossible to get the plans ready within 10 days because structural engineers were all busy and needed at least two to three weeks minimum. He got the extension from the inspector and submitted the plans on time. The county requires approval from the sanitation department first before you can apply for a building permit. Sam knew the entire process and got our approvals without requiring any modifications to the original plans. The entire approval process from start to finish took longer than I expected because you have to go through various departments and they all are very busy and the holidays also contributed to some of the delays. It is like getting stuck in traffic. But I was actually surprised that there were no plan review comments from the county to address and they were approved as submitted without requiring any corrections. The thing that I liked the most about Sam is he is easy to communicate with. He patiently listens and gives good advice and is always responsive over emails, SMS messages, and phone calls. His payment terms are reasonable. I would use him for my next project and would also recommend him to others as well.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Our fees are competitive, considering that we are a one stop shop. Besides drafting the architectural plans, we usually see the entire process through until you get our permit and have a network of engineers, permit techs, former plan checkers on our team that assist in the process. After you get your permit and begin construction we are always available should a revision become necessary or a detail needs clarification.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Usually we start with a phone consultation where we can usually provide a quote over the phone after asking a few questions, followed by a site visit where we offer our feedback to a client. Afterwards, we can be on site measuring within a few days and have a first draft within 3 weeks, 4 weeks for larger projects. On occasion we can accomodate faster turn arounds.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Eric, Co Founder, has an Architecture Degree from the University of Minnesota Sam, Co Founder, is a self taught designer with construction experience. Michael, has an Architecture Degree
