I am Akiya P. of Zanai's Love Of Hair, located in the Lake Merritt area of Oakland, CA. How are you? Well, a little about me. I am a Certified Natural Hair Stylist, Braider and Locitian, with 14 years experience (braiding) and 4 years experience (loc care), looking to help you on your natural, transitional, or locked hair journey.

I am specializing in the care of your locs, cornrows, afros, twists, and braids. Whether you need me to style your hair or provide you with one of my handmade cream, butter, oil, or gel - I'm here for you!

Straight, fine, wavy, curly, kinky hair textures are all welcomed.

    I've been going to Akiya for two years and she truly is the best! My braids are always so beautiful and neat. She's very fast and after a braid session, I never have the dreaded scalp soreness or tightness. She's also very professional and fun to be around and I really like that I'm able to book appointments online (though book fast, her schedules do fill up). I will continue to go to Akiya for all of my braid and twists needs!

    Akiya is the best, nough said.
    I first contacted her because I just started my locks and I wanted to see what options I had. I have straight hair and had questions and she was able to help me. Once I finally went in for my appointment she was very nice and friendly. I've gone to get my locks wrapped on 3 occasions now and its time to schedule my next appointment. Trust me when I say you will not be disappointed with her great work, great prices and great personality.

Q. Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.

A. Tree Braids (cornrow base), Kinky Twists, Feed-In cornrows, Nubi Nubi Twist, Senegalese Twists, Loc Maintenance, Loc Extensions, Sisterlocks™, and Flat Twist styling.

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. My advice is to always seek a consultation with the stylist. This allows you to meet, see their work, know if this is the person you would like to spend 2-8 or even 10 hours with (depending on the style), ask as many questions that you need.

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. I care about what I do. I have had natural hair all of my life and it's a joy to see the creations. The best thing about my work is that I am always learning new techniques.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. Helping others feel and look their best, inside and out. The people I meet are very dear to me because I know I helped with their journey whether they continue with me or not. They are equipped with the proper knowledge.

Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

A. What is the difference between Kinky Twist, Senegalese, or Nubi Nubi Twists?
Kinky twists uses kinky dreadlock hair.
Senegalese twists uses regular braiding hair.
Nubi Nubi twist uses kinky afro hair.

What type of styles can I were while transitioning out of a perm?
Yarn braids, Tree Braids, Rod sets, any twist style, feed-in cornrows, or combination styles.
